...and the pen is NOT for writing on the label.
I'm experienced enough to have spent many o' hours taking part in this painful chore.

its for the exact reason i dont play tapes anymore, when your ghetto chews the fave cassette, you gotta use the pen/pencil to wind the tape back in

Beanie Man gets perfect on the test
I have to concur BM. I used to buy my fave cassette and then immediately dub a duplicate to sacrifice it to the capstan gods. Then I still had my "master" to work from again. Made me sleep easier at nights

somone already said it. you would use the pen to wind the tape back into the caseing.

Tape can also be used to cover where tabs were broken to record over tape.

Yep rember those day's an sometime's still have to fix a few on occasion in that same manner.back in the day i had a hyper sound and when it would rewind a cassette it snapped off it's reel, was the strangest thing, but i always made a copy of the original first though plus i used scotch clear tape on the store tape to protect all the song titles wchich used to rub off without doing so.
