Can anyone recommend a micro stereo?
ao - 2011-11-28 09:20
Can't believe I don't know where to start here but I need a smallish CD/tuner mini/micro system (doesn't have to be portable). Don't hate me but it doesn't need to have cassette nor does it need to have an iPod dock. Size is important but sound quality is the number one consideration. Budget £300-£400 (<$550).
Any advice would be gratefully received

Yeah, just looking at the Teac stuff now, they used to have the 300/500 series of component systems but they don't seem to do them any more.

Yeah, the link isn't working for me, it just links to the homepage to some weird US Amazon-style site and isn't helpful at all. James, can you post the link again to your page? Thx

Hi Agentorange,
I don't know if this is what you're after but friends who've bought this device swear by it..I've never heard it myself though.

type in or search for -( crutchfield )- - or try the link above - as I am a customer there maybe the link is special to me?
this may be amason styled but it is only for audio, video, car, and home stereo and they have been in business for 20 year's longer than amason - so I think they are well versed in their knowledge of stuff relating to stereo stuff -
i keep their customer service on their toes when i call as I like to quiz them on their knowledge sometime's for certain stuff that i am looking for - cause if they dont have it - They will try to get it !!! For you and or point you in the Proper direction -
Really Terrific bunch of people on the phone there - well worth it to make a Oversea's Call to them 1.800.319.8264

Thanks guys, Walkgirl, I like your Philips though it looks suspiciously like an Aiwa Carrying Compo, but I do like it.
I personally love the Bose Wave but it's not great value.
I'm looking at a lot of these little 30watt Denon/Teac/Yamaha things but they can't be that good, can they?

I have one of these cris, and, i can telll you, they are top-notch. Superb sound, but, no cassette.

Plenty of good deals can be found for around $200, like Yamahas, Denons, and Aiwas. My favorite, although it's a few years old and out of warranty, is the Aiwa with a blue glow around the volume knob. Don't know the model number, but it's pretty popular and in-demand on the Bay.

amazing little set!

Arrgghh, not those 'nostalgia' cardboard jobbies, I'm not stooping that low.
ao - 2011-11-29 01:44
This is for a gift for someone, seriously, if I give them this they'll probably knock me out
litfan - 2011-11-29 02:55
Believe me, their not cardboard cris lad. If you want a casette, but, aren`t fussy about having a magnetic cartridge, there is the LP-R500. Voila.
ao - 2011-11-29 04:19
Nah, that looks cack.
litfan - 2011-11-29 04:26
I don`t know. There`s no pleasing some people.
deliverance - 2011-11-29 04:27
that does look grim i remember when teac made quality seperates.
litfan - 2011-11-29 04:27
You spelt it wrong cris, it`s TEAC. not CACK.
litfan - 2011-11-29 04:29
I give up.
isolator42 - 2011-11-29 05:28
Those teac 1-box jobs really sound good Lit?
If so, TEAC shot themselves in the foot a bit, because they look too much like the cheapo steepletone stuff...

Cris, look at a Denon DM 30/31 (if buying second hand) or the more recent incarnation if buying new (DM 37/38) and look to pair it with some small Monitor audio speakers (e.g model BX2). TBH I've never heard this but the reviews are nothing but positive including serious Hi-Fi mags. Plus I have an idea what Denon stuff sounds like, and definately know what Monitor Audio sounds like. If you were dissapointed with the sound that combo would make you need something much more expensive! Plus all of that kit is very well built for the cost. Definately where my £400 would go if buying new.

Harsh but fair.
