robb - 2013-07-04 22:18

Was driving near my area today and what do I see ? A VINTAGE TV ON THE CURB !
Why do people throw these vintage sets out when they still work !
Their loss, my gain
It is from 1972
It is Made in Japan.

Anyways, heres some pics.

Yeah, I'd have picked that up

the worst thing that could have happened to tv (digital) and i used to love tinkering with vhs too....nice set

andyboombox - 2013-07-05 02:06

i agree with tim, should have left analogue running longer, everthing is digital nowadaysoh and the tv is a nice vintage set,so clean and tidy too

I don't recall ever seeing a 70's TV with a flat screen bezel over the tube like that. What a great design.

Nice find Robb...!

My little 9" tube Magnavox has the same screen protector.

I have a KTV B/W portable tv with a screen cover tinted in a light blue. The tv worked great until they scammed us all with digital reception. I miss using it. It's marked August

1986. Had gotten it when I was 15.

Impressive!

@ Joey Binky...I feel for you. I agree with the digital conversion switchover. I loved bring a portable TV outside and watching/listening to the game while working on the car

joeybinky - 2013-07-08 21:34

I know. I'm so upset about it. Even for an emergency alert, channels should at least transmit  broadcasts. There is an external antenna jack in the back of this little tv that I have the plug for. I rigged it to fit the coaxial cable for basic tv from the cable company, but last week they even made that transmission digital and need a special digital scrambler to view it all. What a scam. Free television for almost 80 years is not free to the public anymore. Even the local police are going digital transmission for the police scanner calls. Even my scanner will be worthless. and they call this progress. Discard, and destroy thousand upon thousand working electronics

Didn't know about police scanners going digital??

claret.badger - 2013-07-08 23:58

easier to track users with digital sets

*cynical wink*

I hear you Robb. I raced home from cottage home when I heard the news of the flooding in Toronto. All of my boxes are in the basement

Thanksfully the Gods of Japanese Electronics were watching over my collection. Basement was bone dry...and the wifes flowers were duly watered (I forgot to do it before I left )

robb - 2013-07-12 15:26

This is how bad we had it.. see the empty shelves ? those were filled with family pics.

I raced to save them and 75% of the valuable stuff we have.

We didnt lose all that much.

I saved all my boomboxes and car audio and tv's and brand new car parts that were in the plastic bin.

brutus442 - 2013-07-12 16:19

I hope all the pics were ok Robb. Those are irreplaceable!

As for the rest of the damage, I hope it's minimal and your boomboxes/ TV's were well protected in plasic bins. I'm going to do the same...everything in plastic bins from now on

Take care Robb!
