"A vinyl treasure trove with a pulsing, groovin’ history steeped in its very walls"

What a cool oppertunity, shame i don't have a spare £300,000!

Conjours up memories of a couple of brilliant movies. If you have not seen them; check them out.....

stereo.mad - 2013-11-09 00:01

I was working around the corner from there yesterday.....wish I had seen this thread then as I would have checked it out
Tbh I think it's a dying trade and he knows it that's why he's getting out quick!

I don’t agree with you about it being a dying trade, it’s getting harder as the market is a lot smaller than it used to be. There will always be vinyl lovers like me that will always buy vinyl old and new plus a lot of new people are getting into vinyl.

See this article by the BBC from last month

i have seen more youngsters buying vinyl recently ,  the price of old vinyl is on the up as well .

transwave5000 - 2013-11-09 03:53

So many used vinyl stores have closed around here

But allot of new vinyl are in CD stores now

and you can order any title.

50$ for a new record is a bit steep thou.

Maybe its because there is less old vinyl around now.

I bet they don’t take up as much room as your boom boxes?

bison - 2013-11-09 09:12

nothing beats vinyl imo its the best format, you get the sleeve and inner sleeve to ponder over and admire its just a far more entertaining experience i think..albums these days are cherry picked for theyre best tracks on itunes..not good for music as a whole if you ask me..bring back the days of the double platinum selling album.

Bison I agree with most of what you say, the problem these days is most people just want convenience. The sad thing is the guys that go after convenience are winning and the rest of us are getting more and more squeezed out.

I like having my records and like you said getting the record out to play and looking at / reading the sleeve notes is just amazing. A lot of thought and work goes into making the album cover, not so these days.

Most of the time when I get a record out to play it, it brings back memories of when and where I got it. How many people have memories or remember stories to when they click download to get the digital file?

northerner - 2013-11-09 09:47

I like a bit of both...Spotify + iPhone + line in = awesome never ending music.

But nothing ever beats vinyl for the pure joy of savouring and appreciating a musicians works...just the best way to listen to music :-)

Having just rediscovered vinyl, even though it's through a crappy bush deck, I have to say, we are loving it, we have rediscovered sitting and listening to music again, they are tactile and a joy to use and hear.

For conenience the ipod/phone is great, simple and quick, but for pure listening pleasure, we are now well and truly converted, and slowly converting the rest of the family.

cant wait for the RP3 and then the VZ in the new year.

we are lucky, we have a great high end HiFi shop local that sells new and used vinyl and not far away the city of Norwich with about 6 second hand vinyl shops.

I have to admit I am not a fan of Spotify or any of the streaming services, as they do nothing for the artist. Okay they give the artist a bit of exposure, but what good is exposure if they get little to no revenue for it.
