Sanyo RD XM1

Just got one these very nice and very rare Stereo Microcassette Decks, I know it's not a portable, but very useful for making quality recordings if you have a few Stereo Microcasstte 'Walkman' as I do,
This one is boxed and in mint condition and looks to have had minimal use if any.
It's in perfect working order and produces very good recordings using Type IV Metal Microcassettes with good top end and minimal hiss.It has Dolby B noise reduction and HX with gives a useful headroom extension and extends the upper frequencies nicely.

At first it looks like a standard cassette deck until you realise how small it is compared to a boxed cassette.

How did you find one of these? I never knew that there were Stereo Micro Cassette decks. Did Sony or Aiwa make these as well? Nice find!

Found this one on Ebay not very well listed model number not in listing title, not much interest because of that, won it for less than half my maximum bid only one other bidder.
There are others, the ones I know are the Fisher CR-M300 but this is the same as the Sanyo RD XM1, Sony TC-MR2 and JVC DM-3, I would say the Sanyo and Fisher are the better decks.

Now that is a great rare find , you do seem to come up with these boxed rarity's often Dave. Your a good Ebay detective. Certainly a nice retro looking deck and being MC sets it apart. Important find to be able to have quality recordings on MC for use on your many MC players.

John, yes this was a very nice find, a very rare microcassette deck unboxed a mint boxed one even more so. The quality of the recordings it produces on metal tapes is on par with standard cassette decks, and the sound quality of the recordings when played back on my portables is very good.

That's a lovely little thing, makes you wonder if it was part of an equally lovely little stack system.

Tell me, do you think this was an attempt to lift the microcasssette beyond the realms of dictating machine or would you say it failed to earn it's stripes as a credible part of an audio system?

Agent, you took the words literally out of my mouth! If I was a girlie, I would says it's cute. But I'm not. I'm a proper bloke. So it's, er, nice.
