Just wondering what all you vintage Walman Collectors think of these Dr dre beats headphones ? you hurd them ?? they cost about £150-£200,i actually listened to a pair today and they sound awsome..The foams give good outside noise cancel and they have loads of bass and treble, lovely sound..
only prob i have with them is they have a stupid rappers name on them..
But overall i think they are a nice thing to own,i think they are actually made by monster, think monster make the expensive scart cables n stuff..

although i loved the sound of them, its just the Dr dre part that puts me off..it completely spoils it,and yep if there is anything desirable and expensive, you bet that china will make copies of them..

I've read mixed reviews about the Beats Audio sound quality, and I also read that Beats and Monster had recently parted ways. And that stupid rapper /producer your referring to, recently sold his share for $309,000,000. He's more of a producer and actually really talented.

my lad wants some dre beats,a couple of his friends have been stung with fakes, they are the must have at the minute,
they are more of a fashion item nowadays, back in the day who bothered about your headphones...(as long they didnt have orange foam on em lol)

They OK at best, but has to much mid bass and lacks on high range, some people like the bass, especially if you listen to rap music. But the best are Ultimate Ears triple Fi 10 Pro for earbuds, has three drivers built in each earbuds and is still bass heavy, these earbuds puts most studio monitors to shame!! Bought them for $179 new Or go with Beyerdynamic DT990 for studio monitors with good headphone amp, 600ohm version, if you need close loop, or cheaper go with the DT770 very bass heavy, but sounds great and works with almost anything, or if you have the money Sennheiser hd 650. All the headsets except the hd650 cost around the monster overprice headsets and are consider, or close to reference headphones.
Ones you hear real headset's, you won't look back, just don't power them directly off a ipod, use a headphone amp. I try them all pretty much and had alot of friends that swore by the beats, then gave them a listen to the Beyerdynamic, needless to say they ended up returning the beats!!

retro lol,i did'nt mean he was stupid man,i mean rappers, actors and anyone famous putting their names to stuff just spoils it..
but if what you say is true,if he did sell his share for that price,he definately is'nt stoopid lol..

I have the Ultimate ears superfi. 5 pro's and the 5 eb's retrodos, and I plan on upgrading to the 10's.
Their worth it, I try the shure se425 was so disappointed with the sound and comfort of fit, so return them, then when with the Ultimate ears 10's pro and blow the se425 away and is comfortable, as I use this on the way to work, most of the week, plus cord is detachable.

You did not say which Dr Dre Beats? But the only one I know in that range is Solo and HD Solo.
Monster by Dre are mediochre at best and unlistenable at worst. The Solo and HD Solo I would put in the unlistenable category.
The HD Solo is one of the worst headphones I have ever heard in my life, in-fact I would rather have the ear buds that come with an iPod that is how bad this stuff is. If you like your ears being assaulted by a jackhammer, you will like them.
My girlfriend’s son wanted one for Christmas as all he’s had one, put it this way I was not willing to throw my money away when I know I can do better for £20 - £30.
I gave him a pair of Sennheiser PX100 MKII £30 kills the HD Solo and saved me £150. Now he uses them all the time and he’s friends like them too.
If you really fancy a celebrity endorsed headphones in the same price range, check out the Jay-Z Roc Nation Aviator by Scullcandy. Yes I know you are thinking Scullcandy this is the only Scullcandy I have heard that is quite good and for good measure they look good as well.
Check out this review of the Dre HD Solo, it is funny he thinks like me.

I have a pair of beats tour (intraauricular). Bought them because they looked cool, with the red cable and all that. I-m not satisfied at all of the sound quality. They gather dust in some corner now, after 2-3 days of trying to cope with the sound.
I intended to use them with my sony mp3 walkman, after my dog destroyed the original intraauricular headphones. Original phones used to sound a lot better.
Plus, they are heavy and do not stick to the ear right. Uncomfortable, and I tried 2-3 ear buds.

I tested out a few dre beats in the store....the solos weren't that great, the bigger studio ones sounded better but with a high price tag...sure they look cool..and perhaps are the ones everyone wants....but not worth the money at all.....want a pair headphones with great value?...get Koss...affordable and awesome sound...i own all sorts of koss cans...and been a fan since the 80s....
radio.raheem - 2012-03-05 08:45
here is one of my better cans...sony xb 1000....also have grado rs1...the sony being the better to me
claret.badger - 2012-03-05 09:37
if you don't all buy Senny HD25's I'm gonna bust your tone deaf melons
radio.raheem - 2012-03-05 09:46
how much do they sell for claret??? they may be worth looking into as i remember our conversation about your hifi with the k needle lol
claret.badger - 2012-03-05 09:51
120 is the target price
seen them go for 109 seen them go for 149
they don't cover the ear - yet are better than most noise cancelling bins i've heard
they are light, comfortable and more importantly realistic with sound reproduction - if you need bass boost - you're gonna need to dial in the EQ.
http://www.head-fi.org/product...al-headphone/reviews
they're industry standard for a reason
not fru fru - not showy - they get the job DONE
and you're not gonna get mugged on the bus late at night
radio.raheem - 2012-03-05 09:55
if you still have that hifi you mentioned yrs ago you can have my m90
claret.badger - 2012-03-05 10:09
never selling my Linn/Naim mate
no "portable hifi" is ever gonna come close to the joy this set up brings me
also no m90/Conion is gonna reach what they go for
radio.raheem - 2012-03-05 10:15
fair enough son....change is as good as a rest....my hifi in all honesty is good enough for us....everybody who has heard it on cans....say they have never heard nowt like it....all i want is one of those jvc hyperbass....pc 200 or whatever it is....makes the m90 sound like a mono radio...quite seriously....bought that other on ebay but the sod won't send it
claret.badger - 2012-03-05 10:20
next time you're about to dump a bag on a PC mate
go and look up a
Naim NAC 72 (300) - pre amp
Naim NAP140 (350) - power amp
Naim HiCap (400) - pre amp PSU
then all you need is some decent speakers (300)
- or the Naim Headline headphone amp (150)
any of these things if you get bored/skint - will always give your money back
you never actually buy Naim gear second hand - merely rent it!
they always come in original boxes
the company still service older gear
they are built like tanks
deliverance - 2012-03-05 10:24
linn naim pure quality but hi fi is another story .
radio.raheem - 2012-03-05 10:27
sounds good son....my hifi is pretty good though.....my grado rs1 can't cope 1 bit on it...and there suposed to be good cans....there ok...but toys in my eyes the sony are much more comfy and do a way better job

It’s all about the money, it’s easy money for them to endorse it they don’t have to listen to it.
For the brainless people who buy them, you know what they say “ A fool and he’s / her money are soon parted”

my parents bought me a pair for christmas of 2010. i wanted them to return them but i never asked because they are wierd about things like that. to them, you don't return a gift, even if they are overpriced, overhyped, plastic fantastic headphones.
so i did try them out for a while. i realize that they take a while to break in and reveal their true sound so i used them till the batteries wore out.
the first thing that i noticed was the amount of hiss present when there is no signal, i find that bothersome. i also find it very irritating that if the batteries die, the headphones are useless. i understand that the batteries power the noise cancellation feature, but give me the option to use them without noise cancellation. good grief.
the sound is alright, but being used to my mdr-v6/7506, the sound of the beats is a bit muddy and bass heavy. they remind me of my panasonic rp-htx7...hxt7...tx7h? i never remember those panasonic's model number, but i have a few pairs that i paid twenty bucks a set for at walmart years ago when they were on clearance. i use the panasonics for portable use since they sound good enough and the price was right. i can't imagine paying 349.99 for that sound though.
as far as styling goes, they are too trendy, and big, and glossy black plastic for my liking. they are relatively comfortable enough with nice soft pads. and the detacheable cord is great since the plug is usually the thing that goes first with headphones.
they are alright headphones, but the price it totally unjustified. especially since you can get much much better at the price and much much better for less than half that price.
when i see people with them, i think that they are more into image than sound quality.

Then I take it you have never heard the Stax SR-009. The HD800 is amazing but if you want something also very good that you can use everyday, try the Beyerdynamic T1. The HD800 can be too critical which can render some music / recording un-listenable.

Dr Dre:
80s - World Class Wreckin' Cru, N.W.A. - excellent
90s - Meh, not so much. One or two good ones like 'California Love' but went the way of the big bucks with all that RnB-based gangsta stuff (which IMHO, was the death of real hip-hop)
00s - see 90s
Now - 'Beats By Dr Dre' headphones? Man, please
Still it's a good business deal for him, which is what he's been best at for 20 years now.

90's...what about The Chronic in 92 which put Snoop on the map and The Chronic 2001 in 99 which put Eminem on the map? In the 00's Dre didn't do much recording because he was busy making millions doing beats for everybody...he also produced Snoop's first and best album Doggystyle in 93, 2 songs on Tupac's All Eyez on Me in 96, and Eminem's Slim Shady album in 99. For Dre to still be relevant after more than 30 years in the business speaks volumes. So Dre had production credits on 5 platinum albums in the 90's...yeh that was a terrible decade for Dre...
isolator42 - 2012-03-15 00:43
melly, you misunderstand me.
For sure, times have been very good for Dre, I just haven't liked much that he's done since the early 90s.
You've listed a fair few hip-hop stars who I personally think (& anyone is perfectly free to not share this opinion) presided over what I consider to be the 'death of hip-hop', in the late 80s > early 90s.
This is when it gradually changed from the more uptempo electro beats, loops & samples with battling rhymes from like BDK, Mantronix, Eric B, Run DMC, LL Cool J Kool Moe Dee, Grandmaster Flash, Public Enemy, etc, etc. It changed to a more RnB driven slower sound that I don't like much. I was in a minority, cos people bought it by the truckload. Therefore, record companies signed more similar sounding artists & no -one made the hip-hop I liked for ages.
Now there are some excellent sounds out there from the oldest stable: http://www.streetsounds.co so this moody old git is happy again
claret.badger - 2012-03-15 03:51
I second what isolator is saying
Ice Cube was the only talent in NWA
Dre's producing is calculated, done by numbers for the masses - and is part of the reason of hiphops downfall (but this is another thread altogether!) - and as for Eminem? All hype no substance
You wanna proper white emcee - check out Edan - or hey! The Beastie Boys
