Boxed LG Cassette, MP3, FM WALKMAN "IT EXISTS"

johnedward - 2012-05-30 21:26

Hello my old friends and new ones who do not know me.  I have been MIA for the past year and half from the forum.   After reaching my 400th Walkman 19 months ago I stopped the insanity of buying except for a few rare or unusual Walkman.  It is time to rekindle the passion without the buying ...God knows I have enough so many hidden away in boxes and

YIPES !!

I decided to make my GRAND ENTRANCE with a model of Walkman that my search of forum shows no one has one.  It is a LG (Korea) AHA-FD770 CASSETTE player with FM radio AND A MP3 player using two 16MB flash cards in cassette door ( upgradeable to 32MB each OH WOW LOL).   I have been looking for one nearly 4 years now this is first one I saw on ebay and snagged it for $15 GBP out of UK while back.  It is to my knowledge the ONLY Walkman with a MP3 player built in..... WHAT HERESY can you imagine analog and digital... well give me analog any day but it certainly ranks at least as a Novelty of the rarest nature.   Its sonic performance as a cassette player is poor with Freq. Resp. of 125Hz to 10kHz and MP3 Freq. Resp of 100Hz to 15kHz.  The MP3 sound quality is reasonable.   It clearly was NOT an attempt to make the best sounding multi source Walkman yet an interesting piece to be sure and it does work.  Laughing if I can find a 15 pin parallel port ... well like my "OLDE" walkman my PC server is 9 years old so yeah have one

Of special note to my surprise after reading over owners manual this player has a feature that is nearly unfound on ANY Walkman ever made.  It has the standard Bass boost or X-Live but ALSO SURROUND SOUND called 3SAround Sound.  To my knowledge I only know of two Sony players with this feature the WM-EX20 and the WM-EX2000.  I believe only 2 or 3 other player brand models had this feature please add those models if you know them.   Another curious oddity on this player.   ENJOY

I believe this was made 1998 ???? Does anyone have idea when made.   Some mfg. in the number on back or front page the last set of digits can indicate year.  On warranty found last three digits of 998.

Congrats on such a rare find, and welcome back to the forum JohnEdward.

I've missed your posts John.

This is remarkable, who'd buy such a thing but for novelty value?

retrodos - 2012-05-30 22:45

Nice come back, never knew this existed?

bub - 2012-05-30 23:17

I never knew about this either! Looks a little like a panasonic SX. The memory cards are next to the tape- almost an anachronism. A Blu-Ray VHS combo in miniature!

I want one.

claret.badger - 2012-05-31 13:58

that is fantastic

Hi John!

Nice to have you here again. We've missed your long and information-rich posts. Hope you can stay here for a while ;-)

Very nice and unknown that MP3 Sharp, indeed. I never imagined it can even exist such kind of "freak" player. Tape and MP3 joined? That sounds soo rare, indeed...

But I knew the TV sharp from a AgentOrange; he has a photo on his gallery and I was very surprised to discover such player. I think that TV sharp was undoubtely the "definitive gadget" back in the '80s. TV, radio and cassette in one device! Really awesome for those days!

I managed to get a rare japanese version in red, which features all the same features plus Dolby B. Recently I got a mint, boxed black unit so I'll have the three versions: red, white and black. I'll post photos of all three very soon...

Thanks all for your great reply's and kind welcome back.   The Blue Ray/VCR combo comparison I just love... HA HA.  Yes AO who WOULD buy this thing.... especially with its dismal 10kHz high end on the tape player GEESH the earliest Walkman did better than that.   It certainly is a novelty item but hey for a collector it screams I am the only one... even if no one wanted one

johnedward - 2012-05-31 20:16

HUGO that is amazing accomplishment to have ALL 3 colors in the Cassette TV RADIO.  Love to see a post with pictures of all 3 together.  Is analog TV signal still broadcast over the air where you live?  Sadly in USA it is not so items like this and the Sony Watchman get no picture anymore... sad.

Thank you for the warm and complimentary welcome back.. indeed I shall stay for a while ;-)

Finally, the black unit arrived. Here there is the box:

 SHARP JC-AV1 01

and all my three units toghether, that I believe they are probably one of the world's rarest series of walkmans (it only come to my mind TheLion's black, silver and white JX101 and Rengzi's colourful DD as similar series):

SHARP TV Series 02

Hope you enjoy!

Hugo thank you much for continuing to add to this topic.  I agree that the Cassette tape radio player is truly among the most rare players one can own.  That you have ALL 3 colors is a smashing accomplishment and probably you are definitely the only man in world to have all 3.  You just need to add  the JVC CX8 the only other player to have TV with cassette/radio.  When one thinks of the 1000's of models made that only two models had a tv function gives idea of rarity. Your quote "that I believe they are probably one of the world's rarest series of walkmans the 3 Sharp TV models (it only come to my mind TheLion's black, silver and white JX101 and Rengzi's colourful DD as similar series):"

Yes I would agree as a single model line of walkman your Sharp TV collection, TheLions JX101 3 colors and Rengzi's amazing accomplishment of all DD colored walkman ( Corry may have also all the DD colors) are in the top hardest to acquire.

I would add Rengzi's Sony WM-F5 sport players in all colors Yellow, Black, Red, Blue, Green and the beyond imagination rare KNVB Dutch Soccer Team ORANGE player would be another singular model line collection to include.  I do not have the RED , Blue or Green F5 but I do have the ORANGE special edition promotional WM-F5.  I believe that Renalto and I are the only members IN THE WORLD to own a ORANGE WM-F5.   The image on the letter N and V is NOT SCRATCHES it is the LION symbol of the Team.

Yes, I only lack the JVC that is also very very rare; I never seen one.

Yeah, that orange F5 looks truly rare. It's awesome the full SONY WM-F5 that renzgi has and has already shown here:

To my knowledge, the "official" models are only three:

Be good!
