Need some help....and advise

kittmaster - 2008-03-22 19:45

Ok, I managed to get my GF1000 up and running. New belts (yuck!) repaired volume potentiometer.....bingo...works fine.

My problem now one of the center woofers are "farting" when it plays. I scoped it and found there is nothing wrong with the wave (denoting both amps are fine). Actually two of the 4 are "farting" when it plays telling me the drivers are toast.

Now what I want advise on is the direction I should take this in. I'm sure I can get replacement drivers, but I'm interested in maintaining the appearance of the white drivers.

Does anyone know of suitable replacements? What should I do?

The paper isn't ripped nor is the surrounds, I think the motor driver is got junk in there but there is no way to clear it without ripping the driver down.

I'm almost positive no one is going to have a replacement driver......

What would you and should I do......any input please!!

thanks

This is a tough call here since there are no parts availible, try and contact a speaker reconing company explain the situation they may be able to fix that voice coil or might have replacent solution or coloring solutions for replacements, they do have alot of resources that are not availible to the general public.

Or get one of these http://www.electronix.com/catalog/product_info.php/cPat...64/products_id/13518 and try and paint it with fabric paint and see how it comes out .I think it is worth the experiment.

kittmaster - 2008-03-23 07:44

I'll look into both solutions, too bad its the wrong ohm value, the drivers are 3.2 ohms....gonna be hard to find I believe.

transamguy1977 - 2008-03-23 17:45

I would try getting those rebuilt!!!

kittmaster - 2008-03-23 18:28

having trouble finding a source who can do it. I haven't had to deal with this mess in years.....and I never recone my own stuff, I leave that for the pros.

Can they change only the speaker coil while using the same cone ?.
What about using a 4 ohm coil (a more common value)?. Ok, you'll lower the performance a little ... but it's still right ...

Smile How about changing the center speakrer with one from a 777, pait it white, I'm sure there is a suitable for speakers, I use baby powder, And go through the entire speaker with my fingers until is all even, And then wipe the dust cap. I hope this helps Smile

I'm not sure how fabric white dye will work on a black cone material, but it sounds like an idea. I'm waiting on appleknocker who has some white drivers from another sharp that he is doing the bleach trick to. They should be here some time next week. He has 4 and all white.....so we'll see what happens.....good advise all and thanks for some possible directions to go.

Heres a place in St.Pete, FL:

SimplySpeakers

I've bought stuff from them to re-foam my Mini Advents. I would be happy to bring yours here and work with them locally if you get to a point like that.

Uncle, were the speakers white? That seems to be the problem most can't fix.

enskanker - 2008-03-29 08:46

No, just reg old mini Advents.

Hell, just email them and attach a pix and ask....

They are good folks, I remember they started as a dinky little shop years and years ago and customer service was always excellent.

For what its worth...White liquid shoe polish won't kill speakers if you are at the end of any better ideas.

I know this probably has zero relevance but maybe not ?

In the BMX hobby we deal with some stuff being discolored and we are always looking for new ways to get stuff white again. With plastic it can be much easier but we still deal with chemicals changing the texture of the plastic and most chemicals don't help.

Two years ago I noticed that most of the old sun beaten bikes that spent an eternity outside had nice vibrant white components and the ones that were trapped in old basements or areas that got no sun light the degree of discoloration was much greater leading me to believe that the discoloration was from mold or lack of sunlight. With this in mind I started to try an experiment and it worked wonders.

This seat sells somewhere in the neighborhood of $200 and I bought this one miss-advertised as "Glow in the dark" cause it was so discolored for $15 Smile

Check it out.

Maybe you guys can put your white speakers after a light cleaning in the back deck of your car and leave them there till they turn back to white ?

white liquid shoe polish is a staple for elderly gentlemen.
