My Jvc PC11JW Project

skippy1969 - 2008-06-06 15:01

Heres a pic of my newly modified JVC PC11JW. I took out the original woofers and put it some hefty woofers from a Panasonic RX-DT780 Biamped box. It sounds SOOOOOOOO much better. It really moves some air now. Next I want to put in some tweeters because these did not come with them originally. Confused What do you guys think? Wink ]

skippy1969 - 2008-06-06 15:05

I think it looks pretty cool with the contrasting black woofers with black dust caps and the black carry handle JvcFloyd set me up with.

jvc.floyd - 2008-06-06 15:15

i love it skippy ,maybe you could mount the tweeters right to the woofer grilles that way you dont have to drill any holes.

skippy1969 - 2008-06-06 15:46

Thanks man! I figured you would like it when you seen it Floyd this is your kind of stuff. I think I can modify the port at the top and mount the tweeter right in there. It will look stock but sound better... Big Grin

jvc.floyd - 2008-06-06 15:52

that'll work just cut the port tube off and mount the tweeter over the hole just behind the chrome port grill cover

oldskool69 - 2008-06-06 19:06

Skip, it's hacktastic! Big Grin How do you think the amp will deal with 2.7ohm speakers though? Smile

skippy1969 - 2008-06-07 13:22

It seems to handle it ok. Are the 2.7 ohm speakers easier for the amp to drive than the stock 6 ohm speakers. after all 2.7 is less than 6. It seems louder and has more bass than the stock speakers.

transamguy1977 - 2008-06-07 21:21

Looks sweet Scott!!!
You could port them out the back of the boxes and mount the tweeters above the woofers.
2.7 oms vs. 6 ohms = less resistance more current flow.
the speakers may flow more current from the amp than it can handle so be careful.

Thanks for the info and advise Frank. I'll be careful with the speakers so I don't overload the amp. Nod Yes

forget it skippy --
check out my avitar --has that same dangerous amp/ohms ratio --
sounded just awesome -- like HUGE --
but was told by many here to abort !!

skippy1969 - 2008-06-11 11:27

So is it going to hurt the amp if I listen at moderate levels or what? Confused

- 2008-06-11 12:58

It will be fine scott i have done it for year's and never blown an amp. i did the same to my scrap 777 and i totally hammered it till i was bored its still ok.

skippy1969 - 2008-06-11 13:18

Thanks Tim,that is good to know. I don't have much $$$$ in the PC11. I bought it for $8.00 at a yard sale, and it even has the original owners manual. Eek Nod Yes

You know if you really like black you could have kept this... Laugh Out Loud

Of course this is the extra one (not the Vector ripoff you sent me Laugh Out Loud) I traded Joel(71spud) for a PC-11.

jvc.floyd - 2008-06-11 14:27

i love that vector its like the evil twin of the pc11 only with a 7 band eq instead of the 5 band on the pc 11

How is the sound quality of the JVC PC11JW ? Is it a good box ? Does it pull in radio stations good ? I am about to perhaps buy one, but the price with shipping will be about 90.00. Is it a good buy ?

jvc.floyd - 2008-06-11 15:22

its a damn heavy solid box ,not a bass monster but the sound is very decent .mine picks up fm stations very well plus it has a mono setting for the tuner so i can pull in most every station.

Thankx. Looks like they have good output wattage at 62w ! The speakers can only handle 25w though. Frown

jvc.floyd - 2008-06-11 15:43

it has alot of power i think the weak point is the single full range drivers the only place it lacks is in the low bass department ,it really sounds sweet hooked up to a turntable.it can go very loud the sound is well balanced just lacks low end thump but its not that bad ,has about every input and out put you can imagine.

skippy1969 - 2008-06-11 15:56

OH GAWD!!! not that damn thing again? I thought I was throgh with that Vector!!!!! LOLOLOL!!!! Laugh Out Loud Laugh Out Loud Wink

Well now you can like it in photos since you gave yours up to me! Laugh Out Loud

Back to the topic...

If you are concerned about overloading your amp you could wire your speakers (once you find a suitable mid-tweet) in series to increase the resistance load from 2.7 ohms. A key is to probably go with a four ohm speaker to yeild approximately 6.5-6.7 ohms in a series connection. The greatest challenge is sensitvity. No matter what you have if the speaker has low sensitivity it won't respond as well volume wise. Smile
