Person for Restoration needed

dxer22000 - 2008-09-09 20:57

Hi all

Does anyone know where I can get my Pye RC-401A restored within Australia? It requires new belts for the tape deck as well has the dial cord fixing up as the tuning jammed (tough job).
I'd never attempt to do it myself.

service manuals & the like no longer exist thanks to Phillips Electronics throwing out everything after they closed down the Pye brand name, so they'd need to be able to restore it without that aid.

Perhaps someone who restores old radios might be able to do it.

TIA

Hi dxer2_2000

Where in .au are you?

I'm in a suburb of Geelong in Victoria and have a local guy I use, the actual repairers are scant these days who are willing to do this. Even JB Hifi and audiophile type stores here outsource all their repairs to tape decks to this guy now as no one else is willing to do the work.

I'd imagine this story is pretty consistent australia wide.

I'm slowly teaching myself to do it, but theres some things I can't just nut out (that's when I ask here usually!), I plan on approaching this repairer eventually and seeing if he'll impart some of his knowledge to me.

Rock On.

Hi

I'm currently in Sydney but am about to move back to southern NSW. However I am willing to post the unit in order to have it repaired.

Your right in saying repairers are rare these days. Mainly cause there's no money in it & most consumer goods are throw away these days.
