White speaker stainage.

johnnygto - 2009-01-17 18:57

Anyone ever fix there white speakers that had stains? I think the GF1000 had white woofers, how do you make them as close to new again as possible?

Shoe polish?

Bleach?

I haven't a clue!

Thanks ahead for any replys.

I had good results with my bleaching technique, but the stains returned. I wound up going with a spray paint this time and the results are even better.

Here's my original post:

The paint is made by Krylon and the paint code is 2422 Satin Dover White. It's not pure white; it has just a hint of cream color. Absolutely fantastic.

Thanks Booby, I'll have to try that, and also find a cap that fits my domes like you did!

These stains might not be so bad!

You won't be disappointed.

Unless, of course, you spray your entire boombox white. Big Grin

I did a little brush painting guide in this thread, if it's of any help:

http://stereo2go.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/8596027254/m/20...831045945#5831045945

For the same radio too ironically.

Good luck!

Thanks Gluecificer.

Does it leave any brush marks?

The results pictured in the link looks absolutely amazing. I use RIT BLACK dye for my black speakers and they turn out nice, I would be more comfortable with brush painting the white cones as long as no brush marks are too obvious.

My experience with RIT:

I also followed FatDog link to bleaching. Bleaching looked good also, but I know bleach can be very destructive to fabric and makes me think the same about what it would do to the paper cones.

Thanks

Johnny

Thanks Johnnygto. If you follow my instructions you avoid any brush marks. Brush marks only occur if the paint is too thick. Experimenting on a broken speaker or some other piece of porous cardboard will give you a lot of confidence. You'll then know how much time you have to move the paint around and smooth the finish before it dries too.

Good luck!
