Clean it!

I will tell you that I'm amazed at how much difference cleaning your pots on your classic boombox can make as far as SOUND QUALITY.. No kidding. I was working on my Modulaire 2250 and it had the typical static in volume and a little in balance... after cleaning with Radio Shacks version of de-oxit... amazing how much it improved! Not only no more static, it was alot clearer, more detailed. It seems that sonic vibrations cause the pots to make a little static (not real notciable but there) while playing when they are dirty!

I highly recommend to any "newbie" or "uninformed" member to just "clean it" before you make any judgements on sound quality...

My radio went from... loser to star within 10 minutes of a little cleaning!

Thats an interesting point,
the vibration feedback to the controls.
Probably the switches too.

I am saying, the "overall" sound quality went from ho-hum.. to wow she sounds pretty good... I was only expecting the static to be gone.. not the sonic personality to be improved... but it did!

Def. switches too!

I bought the Radio Shack deoxit also but have not used it yet. Now I will have to get out one of the boxes this weekend to try it.

I Agree

it is almost exactly the same formula.

The problem is that it is messy and leaves like a grease film on whatever it lands on. That is part of the lubrication.

I use it all the time, cheap, easy to find, and does the job......well.

It saved my unisef from hitting the garbage can after I cleaned up the eq section

1. I LOVE the Modular 2250. So much in fact, I have it on my desk at work pumping out 80's alternative music via itunes radio. I have it displayed with a Radio Shack LAB-90 mini turntable (designed for the Modular series BBX's)
I have the left speaker attached to the BBX and the right detached. The turntable is in between the BBX and the detached speaker. LOOKS KILLER! A real stunner. Makes me starry-eyed everytime I look at it. Even my non-BBX employees have commented on it.

2. I agree 100% with Jonnygto. A good spray of deoxit in the pots makes a very noticeable difference in the sound. With dirty pots, I get static, uneven volume between speakers, sound cut-outs on speakers, and flat sound. A good spray of deoxit solves all of that! Even the clarity improves.

I agree Tom, the 2250 is a nice suprise, not bassy or anything crazy good sonically... but just about "right". Especially listening to the '80's music... those were some good times with great music!

Thanks for the comment, its nice to know other have and enjoy the same types of BBX's!
