My 931 is SICK w/ description.

Ok here's the deal guys. I'm panicking right now because my 931 is my baby. I was playing a tape in the bottom deck late last night and I noticed when I initially hit play it felt strange; as if I half pushed it. As a result the tape began to play but the button popped back out. So I pushed it again so that it was depressed as it should be during playback and though nothing further of it. Could be totally unrelated but I thought I'd mention it....

Anyway, when I was ready to go to bed I hit stop and the sound cut out but the tape mechanism continued to roll on. I hit stop again and observed the same result. I had to carefully pry the tape door open and work the tape out to get a better look. What I found was that upon hitting stop the head assembly did not drop down out of the way as it should; the pinch roller was still tight against the capstan. It would play, rew and ff but never completely disengage when stop was pressed. If it was plugged in that baby would roll on and on. Additionally the stop button failed to mechanically lift the door latch. So naturally the first thing I did (well second after a mini panic attack) was open her up. I unscrewed the tape mechanism from the case to try and get a better look but didn't get as far as I really needed to. Without de-soldering it from the box there is only so much one can see and at midnight I wasn't about go that rout.

Is there a spring that came loose? Could something have become misaligned or off track? There is a good amount of pressure require to push the heads down to where they should be and they spring back up into the play position when released. It's almost as if a counter spring in gone?

I am planning on performing full surgery tonight so if anyone has any ideas on input it would be greatly appreciated! Needless to say it was tough falling asleep last night.

Thanks!

It s--ks that this happened to sucha nice bbx Frown. But a positive point at least its easier to fix or replace deck. Imagine if it were the same problem so many have been suffering from, The selector switch breaking. Now that is something to really be Mad about. Well good luck in repairs Smile

If you need parts of the tapedeck let me know!
Maybe i can help you. Wink

Im just parting out the tapedecks of my 931.
If you need mechanical parts of the decks, let me know.
(The buttons are not avaiable any more).

To prevend a part discussion. The box will not be wrecked. Outside it should stay as it is. But i will implant a new life and a littlebit customizing.
