Glueing Plastics Tip

gluecifer - 2008-07-08 05:17

I've not seen this posted on here so I thought I'd post it as it's something I find completely irreplacable.

It's called Zip Kicker (or Flashtac under another brand) and is a cyanoacrylate accelerator. This stuff is sprayed on any crazy/super glue and will force it to cure chemically.

This means the bond is instantly dry and also it makes the bond a LOT stronger. You simply join the plastics together as normal and then spray it and the magic happens. I can't stress how much this improves the bond, in some cases I've had the plastic break before the join does.

I've used this stuff for the last 15 years as a modelmaker/scratchbuilder everytime I have to use super glue, it's absoloutely indispensible. With any plastics repairs I highly recommend it as it it will prevent the plastic from crazing and the glue running everywhere and it also reduces the misting that occurs as the glue cures. Once you start using this you'll wonder how you ever used super/crazy glue before.

It's sold in most hobby shops worldwide. Pretty much anywhere that sells model kit cars/boats/planes/railway should have it in stock. If you're fixing up radios and repairing damaged plastic or customising them it's worth it's weight in gold.

Rock On.
