Hey geoffhartwell,

your radio signal problem is due to the radioband selection switches. U need to get at them and spray them with contact tuner cleaner.
This is a typical problem with the VZ-2000, I always do this even if there´s no problem.
By the way it´s not that easy though, you have to take out the tuner board to get at the switches properly. Good luck.

thanks man, will normal contact cleaner do, and what does the band selector look like

well should be OK to use normal contact cleaner, give it a try anyway.

The band select switches are to select FM,AM SW etc, and there all in a row on the tuner board.
They're actually a sealed type switch (like most tuner band switches)to prevent them getting dirty, because of the extreme small signals flowing through them, but unfortunately the're not 100% sealed. They're white colored switches, and its difficult to get the contact clener to penitrate inside to the contacts.

It not so easy to explain. If you need a hand let me know and I can explain it a bit on the phone.

Cheers. Roddy
