Sanyo C5 Deck Button Functions Not Working

gluecifer - 2008-11-15 02:27

Hello all

I'm attempting to repair a C5 deck for someone and it's got, what appears to be, a common problem, but one I'm yet to find an answer for.

The deck plays perfectly, but all other functions are ineffective. The belt system all seems perfect, and it auto-stops once a bit of force is applied to the take up, but Stop, FFWD, RWD and Record all push in and do 'something' in the mech, but not anything that results in their function. In fact, Record even puts it into Play mode, and Pause has no effect whatsoever.

It's more of a soft-touch design but I wouldn't rule out a dirty contact. I'm trying to think what else could've happened to cause these functions to stop. It's been reasonably well looked after, the belts are still nice and tight and all other functions are fine so I'm leaning towards thinking it's a buildup of crud in the wrong place preventing the swiitches from contacting.

I just ran out of de-oxit, so I can't get much further there, but if anyone has any suggestions I'd really appreciate it.

Rock On.

Check the contacts. It usually takes aseries of contacts to function to get the operation you want. If one is not good, or isn't making a solid connection it can cause problems. Also as you noted clean everything and turn the flywheel as well. If it semms to be trying it may be a bit gummed up from sitting.Smile

Sometimes RWD and FWD has an independient belt with a common friction pad atached to the polley, that seves to both directions (RWD and FWD). You can check this, using the mecha without tape and seeing if the FWD and RWD takepçups can run. The would stop some time after if the mecha has any kind of motion sensor. But this time is long enuogh to see what's go on.
Record looks like a disabling switch deffinetely. Is a full logic deck (with computer control) ?.

The C5,is the only box i have ever gave up on. What a pain to work on. Quality though.

I've just rebuilt my c7,and as litfan says they are a pain, the belt change was a nightmare. The tape functions work of micro switches so they need to be ultra clean. On the upside they are a very under rated box so well worth doing. They sound as good as the "big boys" imho

and remember that some of these soft touch deck have small seleniods for some of the funtions not working would cause irratic behavior so those small micro switches need to be checked,,and yes just like the yamaha pc8 that is a sanyo with yamaha rebadgeing the deck are and i repeat a pain in the downunder. Mad

Thanks for all the help Brothers!
I'll report again when I've got some more deoxit to clean all the switches.

First time I've been without deoxit since I started collecting.. it's like having no milk and bread in the house!
