Fisher PH 480 with one dead channel

Is it likely one channel would blow in this boombox? Checked both speakers, both test good and with headphones. Looks like a bugger to take apart.... wonder if the channels could actually be fused inside like on some better home audio gear. Any thoughts?

it might be the plug the spkr wire goes into. my 492 has the same problem. its easy to check that.

If both channels are good through 'phones then the power amps are probably okay. The reason is most stereos just pad down the speaker outputs with resistors for the headphones socket. If they didn't do this, then they would have to come up with a separate mini power amp for the 'phones - highly cost ineffective though in theory feasible.

Check Sinister's suggestion.

Nope, not the speakers or the cables. Still only sound out of one side of the headphones...BUT I get a little white noise when I push in the super bass push button. Makes me think something else is going on here. I would like to sell the machine, but not in this condition. Thanks for the input guys

........actually now I notice audio in that channel, but very low

well you sparked a fire for me to fix my 492 and all i did was clean and adjust the tab in the input for that speaker. now it works great!!! you may want to try it. i'd be interested in your 480 pm me. also may need to clean the balance knob as well. its not to hard to clean the inputs.

I Agree

If you plug both speakers into the channel that works and you get sound. Then the only thing that it could be is a bad connector, damaged trace. If your getting equal sound in both ears in the headphones, then that rules out the controls needing cleaning.

I expect it is just a dirt issue, will get it apart when the snow flies- soon. It is for sale, but shipping- as you know is a killer. I am in Ontario, Canada
