What is it with Conion tape doors?

retro.addict - 2009-01-21 07:15

It seems like there are very few Conion C100-F's which arrive with their tape door. Why? Are they not connected very well? Do they just fall off? Is the Conion not built very well? It just seems really weird because most other boomboxes survive with their door. Just a few questions... Smile

Almost certainly a combination of:
1. cheap plastic &/or over-delicate design
2. deck prone to jamming, so users force the door

...all IMHO Smile

although i owned two conions in my youth in the 80s...i never encountered the tape door jamming problem...but in the instruction manual it states if low battery occurs the door may jam and needs to be serviced...this maybe the case with many conion owners in the past not watching the battery power perhaps..then not knowing this from the instructions...they pull apart the door and put it aside and lost in the decades that just passed....maybe many people have these doors in there piles or storage forgotten where it was from not really knowing what to do with them perhaps tossed not realizing it high value it has to us collectors... I assume it still plays tapes fine without the door?

retro and iso --here is a goofy old thread --but it shows the deck working in all speeds without the door --and a few easy home-made doors-

also--another likely reason these doors are often broken/missing -
is that if the belt or etc breaks --while the heads are up in play or record position --
then the owner would try to force open the door to get their tape out Frown Smile
