Toshiba RT-6035, tape deck drive belt

jaymz - 2011-05-26 03:28

Recently got this and the drive best for the tape was as slack as a whores knicker elastic. Ive trwled the net and cannot find one How am I supposed to play my old electro tapes. Would anyone know where i could find the size of the belt required, or does someone have one i could buy as spares??

Here it is after a strip and a clean, I did jimmy a belt up on it, but the tape deck warbled like a bird at sunrise, but at least it proved it worked in a fashion

You are probably better off buying a flat belt selection. One will fit.

Please excuse my n00bness

what is a flat belt selection, and where would one purchase this selction from.

Does the word flat have anything to do with the shape/profile of the belts in the selection as the belt that was on it was skinny like a really elastic band, nothing flat about it

jaymz...........you need to strip it down and measure the length of the old belt....if you cant,  use string to measure the length around the flywheel and pully where the old belt used to be.......when you have the measurement you can buy all sizes of belts from CPC.........really only any good if your in the UK.........heres the link

nice one fella yes im in the uk and will have to use string to measure it as the old belt was so shot it had fallen off and was in the bottom of the case.

Is there anything else that might cause the tape sound to warble really badly, just in case i get a relevant belt and the sound is still warbly

hi mate....could be a tape head problem....azimuth maybe out of line....., i dont know how long you have been collecting but them tosh`s arnt really worth repairing......they appear on ebay all the time for peanuts.....may be worth your while getting another one instead of trying to repair yours if you really want to have one.........good luck anyway...:-)
