Sharp HK 9000 Find

mintyfresh - 2012-10-04 23:18

Hey all,

I'm a hunter of awesome stuff. I've been going to flea markets, garage sales, thrift stores for the last 3 years(Never seen a boombox like this). I found this at a goodwill for 7 dollars. I was in SHOCK, Its so cool! I hope you guys can help me as I can't get it to turn on. I put a battery in it and the clock works. I switch it from on to timer and the LED display switches but I was wondering if there is a backlight on the LED? I know there is a EQ light. That doesn't turn on.

Is there any tricks I should try to see if it is "stuck" in some kind of mode? I opened it and looked to see if there are any capacitors that are blown but they all look great. I checked the speakers and the speakers still sound good. I'm thinking I don't have the right power adapter. Where would I get the AC adapter? I can't figure out what model number it is because its a weird rectangle shaped plug

Thanks for any tips.

THis community is insanely rad

Yes! It does and thanks! If I don't figure something out I might mod it to use a rechargeable battery. Seems like a mod I could do.

have you tried putting d cells in it to see if it powers up from them?i think they take 10 though lol-failing that, ive looked at the above pic showing the inlet for the ac.....3 prongs?looks possibly to me like that back plate looks to have been not slid in the right position properly by a previous ownerthat could be the problem

I just ordered 10 on ebay(there expensive!) It's a 2 prong. There is just a reflection making it look like a 3 prong lol. I'm going to open it up again tonight and check!

Yeah as andyboombox said try the plate near the ac connector as it slides across for 240v/110v. Definatly sounds like there is no power as when you turn it on the first light of the 7 equaliser leds stays on as a power indicator The power cable is a standard 2 pin (called telefunken here in the uk).

Telefunken cable

Also the clock is not backlit...i've had mine for years but needs the amplifier replacing as it powers up but the sound is all feint and scratchy and don't know if you can still get the part....

Hope this helps...
