Does anybody have a service manual for the Panasonic rx-ed90.  I am going to restore my old one that's been in the shed for 10 years . Radio and cd worked amazingly, but the tape belts have melted and i can't get the doors open .

Try rotating the flywheel with your finger to allow the gears and wheels to rotate to drop the heads to allow the door's to open

p.s. you have to rotate the flywheel in it's normal direction of operation 'not backward's'

So i suppose my next question is . Does anybody know what size i need and any pointers towards suppliers ?

    Thanks

I'd get a multi set of belts off eBay and just see what fits. Multi packs are way cheaper per belt anyway. As you're uk there are several eBay UK sellers I've used

There`s an ED90, on ebay UK, with a BIN of £120. Unbelievably, it`s in my hometown. I`d have it, if the tape door wasn`t iffy. That reminds me. My dt75, hasn`t been used for 6 years. Might be time to blow the cobwebs off, if, it still works?

ey up rich.....watch out for those foams lad....nice box the 75 though.....im getting my brand new boxed dt 707 back lad.....lovely box....now that's a box worth keeping...not the m70 lol

is it still sealed in the box?

driptip - 2013-05-14 20:57

whitenoise the ed90 looks a bit rough in the first pic , would be looking nice once you finish with it,

Yep rough is putting it mildly! Finding it fun though . Its quite a clever design the way it is put together and i am now at its core ,the tape mechanism . Now that's dirty..

It's beginning to look a bit less like a dogs dinner. Its never going to be perfect again, starting from such a low place but i have hopes

Good for you, that`s the way to do it. Take it steady, and, you`ll get there.

Look at the line of micro-switches, at the back of the tape decks. All these need to be cleaned with isopropyl.

driptip - 2013-05-15 18:43

good job whitenoise, looking better by the minute.

radio.raheem - 2013-05-15 19:02

Well i have my dt707 mint mint mint....the ed 90 is almost as good i liked mine i had some years ago....sounds better than the dt75 but there all good eggs

good luck with your repair...don't forget to change the 2 small belts also....and those micro switches are easy to clean....just use some servisol

litfan - 2013-05-17 15:12

To clean inside the grilles. You need, an old spoon/fork. Bend the handle, then work a cloth into the hard to get at areas, or, get a cheap 2" paint brush, then, wet, and, dab inside the grilles, till all the dirt has gone.

Have just managed to get one of these and am also trying to restore it back to health. I have got a selection of belts but am not sure of the small belts route. Did you succeed with yours?
