Stripping down a Philips D8634

mark.gf575 - 2013-05-30 08:25

I need to get to the tapehead on my Philips as one of the screws holding it in place has come out, no idea how but it has. I've looked inside and seems like it all has to come out. How difficult is it to get to as it doesn't play right now or can I just remove the door to it.

hi mark the plastic bit that the adjusting screw for the play head goes into has snapped off i bet if so you should see the plastic bit still on the thread of the screw is that so  ?

Yes exactly right, I have a screw, spring and piece of plastic. I can see where it goes but can't get to it.

right in that case take the deck out is the first thing .    then take the plastic piece off the screw keeping the spring .   you cant glue or fix the broken back to the deck as it will not hold , what i do is use a longer screw to go through the spring and into were the plastic bit used to be and screw it in .   then you will have to adjust the head using that screw i have used this method a few times with good results so you should be fine .

Never taken a deck out before will it come out in one lump or is it more difficult than that?

i have not done that model so i cant tell you ,  take the back off and have a look the deck should come out enough for you to work on it .

Gonna tackle it now, will come back in a bit to tell you of the outcome, fingers crossed

Well the good part is I fixed the tapehead  The bad part is the dreaded orange gear problem has happened, most have disturbed it too much, so basically it's broke. Really beginning to lose heart in this boombox lark
