Huge homemade boombox:Looking for more new creative/cool ideas as to what I could do with the boombox.

Just a note, I know some pictures are posted multiple times, but I don't know how it happened and it wont let me delete them, so just disregard.

I am trying to figure out if there is anything else really cool or creative (functional or decorative) that I can do to the boombox I have made. I also welcome any advice or criticisms anyone may have.

So that you all can give me the best advice possible, I will try to explain everything that I have already done. It's dimensions are 3" long, 1'6" tall (about 2'4" with top speakers upright), and 1' thick. I know, it's huge and a monstrosity, but I just wanted to make a huge one and see how much stuff I can cram inside. I also guesstimate it's weight to be around 60-70 pounds, but is not very difficult to move around. So far this has been a $0 build, I have just used stuff I have accumulated over the past few years. It has the sound quality of a home theater system, and is just as loud, I cannot turn it up all the way or my ears would bleed lol, but it also can get very loud without any distortion.

I have already done quite alot, I will go into detail and include pictures in a moment, It is not done yet, it is fully functional and sounds AMAZING but I still need to get a sealed lead acid battery for it, and I also plan on covering the outside in synthetic fur because it will look cool and it will hide any flaws from when I built the cabinet, I am no carpenter, but it is very strong and sturdy and has no rattles whatsoever, it has 2 internal support boards and also has wooden blocks I cut and placed in the corners and anchored the panels into them with long wood screws. I also put a generous amount of hot glue on every seam just to ensure no vibrations would cause any problems. For the top handle I used an old chrome towel rack I found in my basement, and for the side handles I just used some flat metal strips I found and shaped them into handles, they aren't the most attractive ever but they work.

I used a car head unit for the stereo, which is 52 peak watts per channel and it has 4 channels, I have it powering all of the speakers except for the 2 additional subs, I have one channel dedicated  to the front sub which is pretty much a fully enclosed sub with a 2 inch port, I do plan on getting it it's own dedicated amp sometime, but it works just fine at the moment, it has it's own enclosure inside of the boombox, so do the 2 other subs. The sub on the side and back can both be independently turned on/off as well as their volume/ bass level. The sub on the side is 3 or 4 inches in diameter, and is more towards the upper range for bass because of it's size. The sub on the very back is 5 or 6 inches, it is not the best sub in the world in terms of power or really low frequencies, but it is perfect for my needs and sounds great, it produces quite a lot of bass if needed. I also have both subs hardwired into the stereo, since I used the sub from a gaming chair and the sub from an old set of computer speakers which were never designed to be put inside of a boombox, but with a little tinkering and soldering I got everything working flawlessly. Because of the way I wired everything up, I can either use the aux jack or the RCA plugs on the control panel, since it is virtually the same because they are wired directly into each other. How I wired them directly together is I took the faceplate off of the stereo, soldered wires to the aux input, then ran them to both subs inputs.

As for the other speakers, on the very front there are 6 speakers total not including the sub, 4 small ones which are pretty much full range (20hz - 20khz) but are best suited for the upper range and do their job well. Then the 2 mid sized ones inbetween them are great for the more midrange spectrum. The 4 satellite speakers on top (technically 8) each have 2 speakers, the speaker closest to the mount is the midrange, and the smaller speaker stacked ontop is a tweeter. The top speaker can pivot 360 degrees above the lower one, and with the great mounts I have I can also position both in any direction I want.

I am currently running everything off of an old computer power supply I had laying around, but I will also be able to power it with a battery quite easily once I buy one.

I have installed 4 USB ports on the top of it under the gaps of the top speaker mounts (2 on each side) to  charge devices such as my phone.

I also made a drawer that slides out of the side at the touch of a button, I used an old broken cd drive's chassis and tray for the mechanism, and the drawer I custom made and lined it with suede leather for aesthetics and also because I didn't want anything I put in it to get scuffed up. I am going to run as additional 3.5mm jack internally into the drawer so that I can play music from my phone without having to plug it into the aux jack in the front of the stereo and have it sitting ontop of the boombox. But the drawer is of descent size so I can fit quite a few things in there if I wish, as long as they aren't very big. Also, the drawer will be near invisible once the fur is in place, which is neat because then it will be like a secret compartment lol.

I would appreciate any new cool ideas of what I could do additionally to it, I have been thinking about somehow rigging up led lights to flash to the beat of the music, I think I could do it with a relay, but anything anyone can think of or anything that would just look cool somewhere on the boombox would be great, and there is still quite a bit of free space inside, so I can still fit more stuff inside as long as it isn't too big.

I have also been toying with the idea of possibly installing a small monitor and a Raspberry Pi somewhere down the road, I would also have a keyboard/touchpad slide out of the front the same way I have the drawer rigged up. I am probably going to keep adding on to this till I can no longer fit anything in/on it, or pick up up hahaha. I know that I am going to get a bluetooth receiver to hook up inside so I can wirelessly steam music to it from my phone.

Thanks in advance for any good ideas anyone might have, I am sure I will get some great ones from this community.

Gosh...probably the longest post I've ever seen on here!

Bluetooth and LEDs seem the next steps....needs prettying up a bit IMO as its not the most handsome homemade machine I've seen...I bet its loud tho, well done on your work so far

Yea it definitely needs cosmetic work, it is still freshly out of basic construction. I am going to have to mostly disassemble it to get the fur on there right, but it will hide most of the flaws and look cool. It is very loud, and it also has clarity at extremely high volume, near 0 distortion, I have never had it at 100% power tho because my ears can't handle it haha. Thanks for saying it is well done so far.
