MY New Box!!!!

jd3 - 2009-10-03 07:18

Ok Members... If you remember I found my first box curbside on trashday.. the Lasonic 975. Who throws out a MINT condition radio???

Well I have outdone myself yet again. My friend at work inherited a boombox collection from his uncle. I go into work last night and notice an awesome old school Sony. He says it was his. I was like "WOW"!! Awesome condition.

He said he had a radio like mine at home and asked if I wanted it. I was like.... "well, let me check it out" So I gave him a ride home this morning and checked it out. OMG!!!!! What a MINT CONDITION GEM!!! I couldn't believe my eyes. Anyway he tells me to take it. Thats right.... TAKE IT!!!!! FREE!!!

I've taken some pics..... I will post them in a few hours and the PRIZE box will be revealed. This thing is from the 80's and still has ALL the factory plastic on the front of it. It is cosmetically about a 9.5.

Oh yeah........ it's HUGE!!!!!

Stay tuned......................

hurry up dood....i just cant wait

Well here it is. Couple things 1st. Does anyone know the age of this one? I will include a pic of me and my very first box back in 1988. That was a Lasonic also. But I remember mine was square and had 2 antennas. This one is more rounded and has things in dif places. Is it one of the last editions from the 80's?

And.... notice the plastic on the front. You may be thinking it's all scratched to hell. NO!! That is the protective plastic film still on it!!!! Can you believe it??? How awesome is that??

These pics were taken PRIOR to me giving it a good cleaning. But it really is in top notch condition. Just a little dusty. Oh, everything seems to work... it did eat my tape Mad but maybe needs head cleaning after 20 years?? Smile

It is missing an EQ slider but that will be an easy fix. Other then that..... what do ya all think????? Thanks, John

I'm kinda shocked nobody had anything to say about a 931 with ALL the factory film still on it. This has got to be a rare thing. It covers all 4 area's of the box. The 2 tape decks, tuner, and eq area. I'm so tempted to peel it off... so it will be all nice and shiny.... but I learned my lesson with my 975. I peeled off one piece (out of 2) now I wish I didn't. Any others out there with this still on their radio??? I haven't seen much here. Thanks, John

Peel it off! It looks beat with em on. Just take care of them!

Hey JD3, I have the same version as shown in your old school pic with the Red power button. From what I've seen they're kind of rare. You see more of the original versions with the VU meters on the right and the others with it on the left, with multi colored power buttons.
There were a lot of variations that Lasonic made of the 931, but I don't think there is a definitive list of the versions and changes made.
Peace,
Paul Z.

Very nice! The TRC-931 you have is not from the '80s, it's the rounded re-issue from the '90s/year 2000. But still rare with the protective film still on!
