Samsnites boxes part 5: Sharp

samsnite - 2010-01-24 06:43

Sharp GF-A10, 5-band EQ

Sharp GF-6060, poor sound, a friend of mine has/had a brown version of this

Sharp GF-4747, poor thing...

Sharp WQ-T238H(BK), double cassette deck = two cassettes and one door, 3band eq, ok bassy sound even it's not the one with separate bass speaker. This unit has taken alot of beating, it has been mine from new. It was also with me in the army on many camps out in the woods. The white stickers on the cassette door are from target practice. You put them stickers on the bullet holes.

6060- very interesting and nice design! is there some technical problems, or is itjust bad built one?

naah, I think it is a cheaper model (?) no problems with it. I think not badly build, only cheap. No bass/treble levels. Just had to make the 6060 a go since it was a while ago i got it. Had to clear the horrible static from the knobs first. It's a very midrange heavy sound, only little bass and no clear treble. But otherwise a nice box and size. APSS and ok radio.

The GF-A10 and GF-4747 are my favourites there, the GF-A10 reminds me of the GF-A2 (a box I would very much like to own), and the GF-4747 reminds me of my beautiful mint condition GF-4949. Nice boxes! Cool

The Sharp twin cam is interesting. Here's a photograph of one of mine. Model mnumber is WQ-T352A(BK). I also have another similar model nimber. WQ-T236A(BK). Does anyone know how many twin cam models were made?

retro.addict - 2010-01-25 03:13

^ I had one of those WQ-T352's and found it OK but not amazing. The JVC 'hyper bass sound' RC-X510 that I had around the same time sounded much better.

I remember (when i was a kid) this model with the "surround" button and it was more expensive so we went for the cheaper model. Too bad.

Don't feel too bad. I was choosing my girlfriend a boomer for a Christmas present in 1988 & my mate had listened to both of these in the shop where he worked & told me he found found the cheaper one sounded better - more natural, I think he said. Alot of "surround" switches can really made a mess of the sound - all echoey & wierd.

Anyway, she *loved* her new Sharp WQ-T238. It's twincam system made pretty good tape copies (at normal speed). She used it for years at university (I gave her a discman to plug into it), until we moved in together & we've still got it now.
I tells ya: buy 'em a decent boomer & they'll love you forever Wink

zx280, the red WQ-T232 is awesome! And cheap too.
tiko, nice WQ-T234 with sticker!
isolator, sweet story! And yes i used to record a lot of tapes in the days too with my Sharp. Still works today.

Between all members can we get an example of every model? Now that would be great!
