My National RX5600F

success - 2008-02-16 18:27

Here is my National RX5600F BOOMBOX.
I finally restored it, exept for a missing knov of the micmixing function.
But it's 100% functional. Altough it has some minor scratches (it's 27 years old) it looks nice. Different in design concept and size form other National Boxes I have, it isn't a mid level BBX ... sure.
Sound quality is SuperB. This BBX will be mentioned the next time we open a topic about sound quality Laugh Out Loud. Excelent BASS reproduction. Not a kicker, but love its definition. Highs are also impresive and clear.
It has 6+6W output power, and each channel has a separate amp. It's a 2 way speaker system with electrodinamyc tweeters (not piezo)

Another important thing, is there isn't any enclosure vibration, even at loud.

It has many features that you can't found in a mid level box, like the manual record level with R and L adj, the two needle VU-Meters, and a FOUR position TAPE switch !!!!!
Also the erase system is with a head (AC metod), and not a permanent magent like other mid National, that shields a nasty saaaaa sound while erasing.

Also it has automatic level control, mic mixing, Line I/O, Phono, rec mute and TPS (for one song).
Metal capability is excelent, while playing, erasing and recording.
Vumeter has a function swithc for level and VBAT/tunning.

Radio has 4 band, with fine tunnings. It works excelent, even without antenna.

The transport is soft touch type, but only at play, rec and pause functions. RR and FF are "by hand" system. with a short run to appears a soft touch function. Not soo complex, but reliable and easy to fix.

Other good thing is the AC power supply. It's performance is excelent, even at loud the VBAT downs a little.

Negative:

Vumeter and turner window need ligth. The reading is difficult even with good light.

Tend to distort a little at loud volume ...

Very nice success, she looks great. Cool

I like my 5600 but it doesn't seem to get much love, probably because it's more of a finess box and not a brute. I think they look really cool though.

Success, is the the dial lighted or are those just green lines? Mine just has a black and white display with no light. I don't have the F model so I only have AM and FM and this may be why it looks a little different.

Thanks people !!!

I wish it had light, but not. They are only green lines. I've used the flash so they look overlighted =). The dial window looks like the RC-838 ... vintage, but with no ligth.

Nice box, congrats on getting her up and running! But I thought these had 8 + 8 watts?

I agree with MB84, its definitely a finesse box rather than a brute. At low volume, it sounds much better than my M70 (better stereo separation, warmer bass and crisper highs) but once you crank them up, the M70 destroys it.

I have an LS version that still has the window sticker that indicates 16w total. I hope the pic posts properly (if not, here's the URL http://www.pbase.com/jaetee/image/85498004/original)

JT that's a great pic, I wish my 5600 still had the sticker. I always wondered what they were rated at so thanks for the info.

Mine has the ooutput stage built around the BA532 from ROHN. It uses two, since this CHIP is for one channel.

Here is a brief of ROHN made chips, where the BA532 is rated to 5.8W at 13.2V.

I supposed that's the maximun rated power, because is its main feature so all datasheet underline the maximun.
Perhaps, later versions of this model use a more powerfull chip amp ...
