Hi Gilberto, you could use the line in with MP3 player for instance. But you have find a cable that fix with 3.5mm phone plug at one end and a pair of RCA plug at the other end.

Oh i kno that but when i do that it dont do nothing

isolator42 - 2012-01-19 03:29

Does your TRK-W224 have a selection switch for line-in (eg: Tape > Radio > Aux-in)?

I don't know this model, but with some boomers, the line-in doesn't work unless you are recording with the tape deck (eg TRK7620 / 3D7).

Give that a try.

percis - 2012-02-05 12:07

Hey.

I got the cx-950e and Trk-3d45E. Will Try to upload pictures of the cx-950E tomorrow.

I hope too to find an offer on eBay but I have not seen any the recent years.
Let's communicate if we can find the unit.

Thanks for the kind words on my CX-200 restoration. It's not perfect, but you saw how it started out...!
I do have a soft spot for this boomer. I like the fact that although features were left out - perhaps for price (no second deck, no 5 band EQ, no surround or flashing lights), the features it does have get the job done well (full auto stop on the deck, bass & treble controls. Fit for purpose & all that
I'll keep an eye out for a CX-200 for you. I still regularly watch eBay for any Hitachi 3Ds, in case any of the rare ones I don't have come up for sale.

I got the demo CD from eBay.
It's all in English, so my best guess would be it was supplied to stores selling the then new ASW Hitachi 3Ds. Back then, in the UK, boomers were arranged on shelves in the store for customers to play with, many powered up, to try out properly. A Sales assistant could then use this CD to sell the benefits of ASW to potential customers.

That CX-W950 sounds incredible.
I'd love to see any pics if you have them?

A remote? Now I *really* want a CX-250.
The only Remote 3D I have is the CX-W500. My other son used it for a while until Santa bought him a Lasonic i931

It's really interesting to share this info about the Hitachi 3Ds

I'd love to see any other pics you have, scans of product literature, etc.

I've got some myself - just let me know if there's anything you want to see & I'll check if I have it

Just uploaded a picture of cx-950e at the end of the thread

I dont think its much point in selling it, With shipping and all Not worth that much i would think. Really dont have a clue about value. Just know i couldn´t find a single picture with google and some other search engines. So had to upload picture

Its in really good shape and has the manual and remote, but also has classic cd tray error. keeps opening and dosent try to read the disc. So i just use aux, radio , tape

Happy you liked the pics...

Maybe you can see the coffe jar in one the picture I live in sweden.

But not all that intressted in selling, But i guess it all depends on the offer. Had a lot of

Hitachi but only got these 2 left, didnt have room for more models

isolator42 - 2012-02-07 04:00

I shall have to see what can be done...

hdesigner - 2012-02-07 11:17

wow! Thanks for the response, Percis. CX-950 is a very rare model.

I have not seen neither the product nor picture since 1996.

In fact my involvement with Boombox were started with TRK-3D45 and ended with CX-950. You should know how much I like these pictures.

isolator42, you are always the no.1 Hitachi 3D fan!

percis - 2012-02-07 13:50

Im happy the pictures got good response !

Just had to upload when i found the tread

I have always liked boomboxes since i was very small.

Most of my collection is now among friends with more space

I have only seen this one i have, but didnt now it was rare .

hdesigner - 2012-02-08 03:46

Hi Percis, I guess isolator42 would be more than happy to spare you a room for the CX-950.

How many 3Ds did you owned through out the years. What were those models? Any CX-200?

percis - 2012-02-08 04:07

I dont remeber all of them by model, more by looks. Didn´t have the cx-200 i had the one with remote. Also had the cx-w700 model. Some i cant remember if it was with digital and analog radio , and some i had both with cd and only casette version.

Had the older looking model of Trk-3d45e not as round corners and analog radio. can´t remember name.

Mostly i had 3d boomers from hitachi, then som older other brands of boombox´s.

isolator42 - 2012-02-08 06:15

Clearly I'm going to have to whip out the (not very good) camera & put my seriousl;y limited photography skills to the test & take pics of all my 3Ds...

percis - 2012-02-08 07:44

Sounds like the right way to go all right Have some other boxes but they are not hitachi.. Hmm its hard to resist looking for more boomboxes now when you see what´s out there :/

isolator42 - 2012-02-08 08:09

Percis, that's how it all starts...

Welcome my friend!

The red one is really gorgeous to me. I like the contrast of the red paint and chrome panels (and certainly not an easy job to re-paint the unit). We were not given luxury to do this in the 90s due to cost constraint. And surely the 90s market was more looking at matt and darker colour finished.

I guess the TRK-8190 is better sounding?

Just got a hold of a smaller Hitachi Trk model, Trk-cw3e. Just tuner and double cassette.

Good condition, Can post a picture if someone want to, but it isnt one of the flashier hitachi. Its design is called cylindrical round form design  From 1988 .

vincent - 2012-10-13 12:36

The Hitachi TRK-8020EW (red box) looks stunning! Love it

hdesigner - 2012-10-13 21:18

Hello guys, my apologies for getting so long for this reply.

I am too liking much the nicely re-built "red box".

TRK-CW3E is another unsual Hitachi; I would recommend this for your collection.

It was developed before my time. I was once shown by my R&D boss the product.

How are you doing H_d, keeping well, I hope?

I had a sniff of a Hitachi CX-W400 recently, but the seller evaporated...

(eBay no. 200789398391). It's a similar era to some of yours. I wonder, were you involved with it's design at all?

andyboombox - 2012-10-15 02:32

to me the best hitachi that has ever been was the trk 8600-ive had one and miss it like mad.....id love another one but its like pi##ing in the wind trying to get one of those nowadays

hdesigner - 2012-11-22 03:25

Hello my friend,

2012 is such a busy and stressful year for me in business venture.
Please accept my humble apologies for this overdue message.

I was involved with the top level development of CX-W400. The styling was pretty much mine till my big boss came in for some tweaks that he thought might work better for European market.

I am very delighted to see the picture of this product again. It was in fact the last CX series that I involved with.

hdesigner - 2012-11-25 19:32

Thanks guys!

Hitachi is no longer actively producing boombox.

It means those units that you had, the TRKs or the 3Ds ... are very rare indeed.

This is a topic for Hitachi's enthusiast to share the joys and sweet memories.

isolator42 - 2012-11-25 23:13

I hope you're right, because my 3D collection could represent a decent retirement fund. You never know, eh?

northerner - 2012-11-25 23:34

Not sure I'd be able to retire on my 1 3D and 2 TRK's, even tho my 3D is like new and boxed. Just given my other 3D to my brother as a present as he had the model as a teen...that's 25% of my retirement fund!!!

bridcas - 2012-12-16 09:33

Hi Guys, I am amazed at the following here on the Hitachi Boombox. I have a CXW700 3D Acoustic Super Woofer. I must say it is so heavy to lift. It is in need of some TLC. I have had it for many years. The inside has a lot of dust in as it has been used as a decorators radio  The CD player appears to not work and is full of dust. One tape player doesn't work. The radio however, plays brilliantly, the sound is second to none. I do not know whether to find someone to restore it or get rid of it. Any suggestions?

hdesigner - 2012-12-17 02:56

It is indeed unique from the design and engineering point of view of the Hitachi 3Ds. Be happy with the collection that you have.

bridcas: I am currently situated in Malaysia, I am not sure how can I assist. What I can suggest is as follow:

1) Low chance to restore the CD player due to CX-W700 uses the very rare version of Hitachi Japan made mechanism. It is not the common Sony mechanism that use in many other 3Ds.

2) You maybe find replacement parts for the Twin Cassette Player. It is a pretty common Tanashin mechanism that fix into many boombox.

isolator42 - 2012-12-17 03:07

The easiest way to source parts for repair will be to find a working one on eBay.

They turn up from time to time.

Just don't pay big money... some sellers are optimistic about the value of a 20 year old CD radio cassette from Hitachi

bridcas - 2012-12-17 08:51

Hi to you both, yes, as I thought too. I will most probably just use the radio and not worry too much about the cd player and tape player. If I see any request for spares, then it's open to whoever can use it. I live in Brighton UK so if anyone wants to contact me for it, please feel welcome. Thanks for your replies.

You are welcome bricas. isolator42 comment is valid. Meanwhile just clean up the unit and listen to only radio which is still good.

hdesigner - 2012-12-17 20:30

This unit was "made in Taiwan". It could be the very early unit produced outside of Japan before consolidation was done to produce boombox only in Singapore.

I find myself coming back often visiting this wonderful informative topic.  So rare to have a man behind the design of several amazing boombox machines.   I have recently acquired what I believe to be the only RED colored HITACHI TRK-6700h small or "mini" boombox known to exist.  It is I believe the only 6 speaker 3 way small boombox ever made a true testament to Hitachi's desire for excellence and uniqueness in a difficult market.  I have posted this several weeks ago on Boomboxery and am told this model is very very rare and no one on that site has ever seen a red one.  Until now it was only known to exist in a titanium color.

It is very well built and the stereo wide setting simply sets the speakers as if they were moved far to the sides and a true openness to the sound.  The mid and high's on this model are astounding even against much larger units.  Due to its size the bass

is limited yet at lower volumes quite respectable actually.  I am unsure of its original manufacture date but my guess is 1982 to 1984 ??

This BBX has nearly ALL the features of the best and larger boxes a surprise for a boomer of this size.  The striking deeper RED almost burgundy actually has a metallic mix but hard to catch in a photo see two up close photos.  After days of searching not a single photo of this model in RED or on any forum in any color other than Titanium. It is one amazing sounding machine. Also appears in excellent very well kept unused condition and love the LED meter. The LED meter reads INPUT levels not output of amp. Nice feature especially when using AUX IN.  It even has a LOUDNESS switch. Check out the top controls.   You DEFINITELY do not feel like listening to a small boomer. 20 x 6 x 4 inches. My new pride and joy

Thanks John for your sepcial interest of this topic. The TRK that you have shown here is indeed a very interesting model. The product strategy is meant to be feature packed. It is a product produced in those golden years of boombox. Wherein boombox was equivalent to iPod during those days. It was the dream machine of many people. And therefore, the manufacturer had put in a lot of resources in developing good products.

I must share a tip here for the differentiation of pre 90s Hitachi. You will find the logo is always consists of a symbol (resemble a tortise) and an alphabetic logo. The company had eliminated the symbol with only use of alphabetic logo in 1990.

Good luck my friend. I wish you could soon find the required belt.
It is always fascinating to the design engineer to see the internal construction. Haha.
I am keeping some of the blue prints with me for years ...

I too have a TRK6700 (the usual dark grey colour) & it also could use new belts.

If you have any close-up pics of the belt replacement I'd be very interested...

johnedward - 2012-12-18 07:11

Thank you H_designer for your comments on this BBX and the information on what engineers were trying for in those golden years of the boombox.   I did not know about the switch from a LOGO/Name to switch in 1990 to just the Name.  interesting and easy way to know early 90's units.

Sadly my red one needs belts too.  Afraid to go inside without some good photos and directions from another member.

IT WOULD really help if anyone knows what belts this takes and where to order them for this model.  Dont really like ordering a bunch of mixed and looking for right one as you never know the tension the engineers specified so just putting on one that fits does not always do it right.

isolator42 - 2012-12-18 07:36

maybe I'll have to get mine in pieces...

it really is a little cracker of a mini
