Clairetone 7980 Static in right speaker

christopher.r.kenney - 2013-07-16 15:31

Hi guys,

I have a clairetone boombox in excellent condition, i recently has static in the right speaker, dont know why..i can switch to anything tape or whatever its still there..if i turn the stereo to mono its in both speakers no matter if its aux or tape or radio. It did it last summer then disapeared. I put a bose systems ontop of it a few weeks ago and then it started again. I believe its the same static issue.   Any ideas with this information where it could be? I tried batteries and that didnt help either.

Thanks,

Chris

Welcome to the forum ;3

Try moving it around the house. Maybe a badly shielded part of the box picks up static.

Have you also tried to degauss the cassette heads?

Does it have a Balance knob?

It may need a simple switch cleaning with a little Deoxit if it does have one

I have not did anything to the TAPE deck, can it interfere if it isnt even turned on? I actually pulled some plugs out of it one actually helped but very little.   I dont think its the balance nob because if i turn it all the way to the right...its fine...if i keep it to the right and switch to mono, i hear static in the right speaker. So its something in that area?

It's possible that one (or more) caps are leaking or have gone bad......

Does it do this on batteries as well or is it limited to the mains?

christopher.r.kenney - 2013-07-16 16:49

Do you mean the power switch?

christopher.r.kenney - 2013-07-16 16:50

Does it on batteries as well, tried that idea. I checked the caps cant find any that are messed up.

hmmm... I don't know where to turn from here. Maybe some of more masterful mechanical wizards can offer some better advice.

Sorry..and good luck!

Get some ...it's a miracle in a can. Great stuff!

Seems like when i play around the cassette, bottom one inside while its on, i get noise thru the speakers like the clicking and so on of the spring lloaded part.

Anyone have a schematic? i wana cut the power to the tape deck. It sucks anyway.

before you cut power to anything, i would recommend a good contacts clean up. it prob needs it anyway.

good luck christopher.
