Oh, this is VERY interesting.

The Hitachi info shows a b-box with a "Lo-D" branding - I guess this is a Japanese-Hitachi thing, like "Victor" for JVC?
Also, there is a listing for a "CX-CD5" (but the link doesn't work, unfortunately).

This all points to the hugely elusive Hitachi 3D CX-CD5 actually existing!
There's only one pic in the BBDB, but because it had the "Lo-D" brand, I thought it was a copycat & not Hitachi.
It looks to be based on the 3D5, but with a CD player in place of one of the tape decks...
