The Boominator - the ultimate boombox

saturnus - 2011-12-27 14:33

Hi all. I tried searching to no avail and you can imagine my surprise when I couldn't find a single reference to my almost 5 year old design for the ultimate DIY boombox, the Boominator.

Why do I dare to call it the ultimate boombox? Well, it's louder, has better sound quality and lasts longer on battery than any other boombox has done.

Over 100 people have built their own by now. It's an open source design, free to use for non-commercial use. It's been available for 5 years as noted above but it actually took almost 4 years before that to develop it from concept to reality. The are no details in the design that aren't like they are for a reason so I'd warn anyone against trying to "improve" on the design as it's not possible to change any detail without it affecting something else.

Anyways, links, lots of links:

looks good fun

For Camp Fri Ost (directly translated meaning "Free Cheese") which made the one sitting on a wheel barrel uses the wheel barrel underneath as a beer cooler. It's literally filled to the rim with beer and ice cubes, so I'd consider it an essential part of their design additions, or "bling" if you like
