Lil'G Mini Boombox

jasin.dollin - 2012-04-11 15:38

Hey

I just designed this Mini Boombox with Bluetooth and a Lithium-Ion battery called Lil'G. It works with any music or phone device with bluetooth or headphone jack. You can find it on ideacious.com

I'm an independent designer, so feel free to spread the word and comment.

Cheers

cool, i already posted about at boomboxery.com about three weeks ago

jasin.dollin - 2012-04-11 20:47

Ya I saw that! Thanks a bunch, I need all the attention I can get right now. Thanks for spreading the word.

I actually posted about your site too on my FB and Twitter.

Hello Jasin,

I like your boombox, I guess you left it white for people to personalize it with custom graphics which is cool.

I however did not see any specification on that. Potentials buyers will be also interested in rated power, frequency response of the speakers, battery life and so on.

Does that have only 2 speakers or does it have tweeters too?

jasin.dollin - 2012-04-12 07:29

Hey NevOne

Here are the product highlights we're working with. Once we've sold the initial 1000 units we'll go into production. Changes maybe made for better quality. Future planned versions will come in various colors, pink, black, purple...

I did design Lil'G to be one color for people to customize themselves. Markers, stickers, even some artists are sculpting new parts and speaker grills. We're doing an event with spankystokes.com to show the custom boomboxes selected artists are making. The show is in June on the website. The boomboxes will be for sale but they "art/sculptures" and non-electronic. We just want to show people what they can do with Lil'G. Eventually we'll be doing electronic custom boomboxes if things go well.

Thanks for the interest!

Jasin

really cool, good luck, would love to get one but short of money all the time, but maybe in the future, they should sell on ebay too

That's like the mini one of the 60 pounder.

Perception of the whole object really depends on every tiny detail, you can ruin the good idea, even with only one unnecessary knob.

I'm sorry, but  too many details and their placement need work, and... the handle looks like a joke. IMO.

I appreciate your comments, everyone is entitled. But saying something is "a joke" is a little insensitive, especially if you're speaking directly to the person who created it.

There's tons of stuff I think is unworthy or a joke (design wise), especially things that compete with what I've created (iHome, Berlin Boombox, Suck UK paper Boombox). But I would just be respectful when posting on-line.

The comments I've heard over the years weigh more in the positive. Any criticism I've received came with advice and input.

Cheers

People, have to agree here.  Jasin has been good enough to pop in with a potentially interesting product.  He's not asking for your feedback on it so please use some respect if you choose to provide it.   It may not be exactly tailored to your individual taste so please keep feedback constructive and polite.

It's rare that someone makes the effort to keep the old school alive, we should be behind him all the way.  Spread the word.

That just gave me "goose" bumps, thanks Agent Orange.

I'm trying to expand on the designer toy genre (KidRobot, spankystokes.com) and show that Boomboxes are alive and well. There are too many products out there that use the word "boombox" and look nothing like one. We all personally love boomboxes/ghettoblaster and it's up to us to keep the fires burning.

I like the products that compete with mine, they are obviously doing their part too. Although I have a love for Lil'G and hope it's a success.... and yes, spread the word.

Cheers

Hey, it's cool.  These are good guys, they can just be very protective over this hobby.

Good luck with this Jasin, looks like it's got legs.

bison - 2012-04-12 13:28

nice product,

good to see it on the street where boomers should be

jasin.dollin - 2012-04-12 13:30

Thanx! I'm glad I found this site, it's great to find people who have the same passion and interests.

It's tough marketing your own product independently. Ideacious works similar to Kickstarter, but I'm not American so this is my venue for manufacture. It's tougher getting the word out, but I'm learning how to market through social media and sites like this.

I'll keep everyone posted on the event we have happening in June on Spankystokes.com

Cheers

Thanx man!

I have a model showing up this week. We're doing some video and pics in LA and San Diego, so I'll be editing something together soon.

First of all, I didn't mean to be harsh,
but what did you expect, only positive comments ?

Are we talking about personal taste in design or design itself ?
let's not to confuse these concepts.

We can't argue about personal taste or preferences, right ?
I hate to discuss anybody's taste.
And I didn't do it.

There are Composition rules in visual arts.

Principles of organization such as: proportions, rhythm, golden cut...and others, work for every visual art, such as design, painting or photography, etc.
They work till these days, no matter of someones opinion.

You can see the results of this invisible work, when you see JVC RC-550 or SHARP GF-9292, for example.

In other words, working with various visual elements, such as shape, space, straight and curve lines, etc, designer operates the rules of composition, which help to put together all of those elements, to get them to the "right place", to get the "harmonious whole".

Personally I do not like three-pieces boomboxes, but I admit, there are fine examples of the designers work, I can see the "harmonious whole", even I personally do not like the whole idea of it.

I find the idea of the "toy boombox" is awesome !

But the design of this radio, in my opinion, is unbalanced and not finished.

Sorry, but It's not the matter of the taste.

Hey metad

Waaaay better comment this time around than your last. You're actual input and comments are welcome by me.

This design was conceived by myself, but I had the help of two industrial designers working in the field that helped me bring it into a more refined design/CAD. I based my design off of my favorite elements of boomboxes and don't think my design is off, but it's a matter of opinion. It is, in fact, a toy type of item and meant to be fun. I would urge anyone to try and design a boombox of their own, especially to the extent that I have gone. It's expensive just to get to a simple prototype.

Again, any input and comments are welcome. I'm not expecting flowers and rainbows, just professional comments and insights. From one visual designer to another.

Cheers
