folks, keep your "Universum"-boxes in honour - this brand was exclusively merchandised/ sold by traditioned mail-order house "Quelle", wich closed its doors forever those days...

there's been lank rubbish on the market under that brand, but don't forget f.ex. the "Senator"-series (all a.k.a.'s from Sanyo, JVC, Sony, Sharp !!!)

...and aaall those "City-Bummler"-personal stereos...

do you own any "Universum"'s ???

This UNIVERSUM Supersound 16000 sounds very good, like the JVC RC M70. One reason for this good result are the Matsu****a ( National / Panasonic ) Speakers inside, the same series as the JVC RC M70.

It´s not all over now.
Maybe the austria quelle survives.

Loaded with features, really nice oldtimer:

Its not definite, that universum is dead. Quelle mailorder is dead but maybe some investor will buy the healthy devisions like kittchen or tech devision. Or someone will buy the name universum to stick it on his own products like Lenovo did with IBM. Future will tell...

A very classy box, to be sure. I have the US 120V version (the Telefunken CR-8200). Crisper and richer than any Sharp midsize box, in my opinion. Its only letdown is the slow-turning tuner knob, and the fact that the volume is controlled by dual sliders instead of a single knob.

I have a Universum Super Sound 16000 and also the old lady 8800 - very nice sounding units!

But the best sounding unit of Universum is the "Senator Hifi System 1000" (right one, silver unit). Sounds is close to the Telefunken M1 - realy great! They produce this unit also as Uher (other amp and speakers but also real hifi sound) and Loewe (sounds ok - left one, black unit with white speakers) ...



The Senator HS 1000 is next to the Uher unit the only one which has the badge "Hifi DIN 45500" printed on the box! Not just a print - the sound quality is like the one from a home hifi unit ...
