Another Boomer used for Publicilty

gld - 2009-09-22 13:51

This is an odd one, I think. Cheryl Cole (arguably naff pop artist) has used a rather nice boomer for the promotion of her first solo single.

80s fashion has been back in fashion for a while. Next (clothing retailer) also has a couple of boxes in its current TV ad campaigne.

Before, there was Madonna and Lady Gaga.

What do you guys make of all this? Where do you think it's gonna go?

we all know what happened to discolites a few years back, maybe the 9191 is next?

I wonder if her box needs a contact cleaner? Big Grin

I think a boombox is a good, logical prop for pop music makers. It is a visual reference that relates directly to music, gives an image of a slightly rebellious, cool, pop, active/dancing lifestyle, and is a good size to pose with in a picture. Posing in front of big stereo speakers or guitar amps or a McIntosh system just doesn't give the same image. Offers a little sense of "retro street cred" without really turning off anyone. Motorbikes could work if you were selling to middle-aged men, but they won't appeal to younger girls and won't be automatically linked to music. You can't use Coke or Pepsi bottles in their hands. or it looks like a soda commercial. I'm not surprised that they use boomboxes!

Can't see her lifting anything bigger for she might chip a nail Wink

Personally, I would have like to see her with the Techsonic Super Jumbo just for the entertainment value. Laugh Out Loud

I think it's funny how boomers seem to give the ultimate 'street cred' for music artists and model shoots but are actually the last the thing you'd actually see in the street these days. They'll probably make a return to being cool but to just carry around and not have switched on Big Grin

Even better: people who wear glasses but donĀ“t need it. Nerd/Geek-Style. Some fashion is crazy.

panasonic.fan - 2009-09-30 19:05

They could have at least powered it up for the shoot.
