Lasonic 931 VS. 975

jd3 - 2009-06-22 08:19

I was just wondering about the sound on these boxes. Each has pretty much the same internals, but because of it's smaller size does the 931 have tighter, clean sounding bass? Maybe the 8's in the 975 get a little muddy because of the extra space. Does anyone have both of these radio's? How do they compare? I have the 975 now but cannot recall 20 years ago how my 931 sounded.

Good thread! I'd be interested to hear as well. I've always wanted a 975>

EDIT: See my next post!!!

You are correct, the internals (the boards anyhow) are very similar. Speakers are exact. Sound, i personally like the 931. I would say the 975 is indeed boomier due to the cabinet space. Some may prefer this however. One is no louder than the other tho.

Not to hi jack this thread, but has anyone ever tried putting Dynomat on the inside walls of their boombox? Dynomat is a thin material with glue on one side that nocks down vibration and is typically used in cars to deaden the sound. I was wondering if it would provide a deeper, cleaner bottom end to these old boxes.

As luck would have it I stumbled upon a brand new 975 yesterday for cheap. Having just read and commented on this very thread last week I made a comparison video for everyone to check out!

Check it out here!

Brilliant video..Top Quality !!!
The 975 is one of my all time fave boxes..

Thanks. Great video!!! But to be picky... I might of set up the EQ a little diff on both. Seems to be missing some highs.

But as I remember (although it was 20 years ago) my 931 sounded better then my 975 that I have now.

Nice.....very Nice.
Thanks for the comparison. I like the Jumbo. The 931 is tighter though the EQ settings can make up for that. The Speakers are really moving on the Jumbo indicating that all that room allows for breathing. I bet that if you did add something similar to a sound deadening material and he jumbo would tighten up more. Thanks for the video. I'm in the search for a Boom box and I only want one. So all these comparisons help alot.
I know they do not represent it's true audio since it's recorded and played back through the net but it helps.
Anyone have a Jumbo for sale? Big Grin

I may try stuffing some polyfill into the 975. Smile

Tis the TRC-935 and TRC-920 that are the true Ghetto's of the Lasonic line. Pink
