rom.selecta - 2009-07-12 09:13

Has anyone seen one of these before? Is it any good?

I would like to buy that. PM me to discuss this. Thank you!

That would appear to be an extremely RARE travel case for the JVC/Victor PC-5 component system. Worth quite a bit.

rom.selecta - 2009-07-12 11:40

Cheers! Yeah, that case is a real eye catcher, so that pretty much settles it... I am buying it Big Grin

Ahhhh... that makes the dirty looks I get for staying up until 4am searching for them all worth while Laugh Out Loud I Agree

im.out.of.hear - 2009-07-13 07:13

that pc5 looks like it needs a full day spending on it to give it a good clean..also..the speakers look like they have speaker rott, but i`ve done mine before and it was quite easy to do..

rom.selecta - 2009-07-13 07:23

whats involved it doing that?

ao - 2009-07-13 13:12

Yeah, I'd like to be reminded of how this is done too.

im.out.of.hear - 2009-07-13 14:46

i did exactly the same as this guy,but i was alot more careful, and alot more cleaner than him,i did`nt just splodge all the glue every where so you could see it..
its quite easy But...on the pc5,the inner rim of the foam needs to go under the cone, not on top like he did with his..

Anyhow..hope this helps..

Oh one more thing,i would definately rather refoam the origonals than replace them..i reckon its suicidle to ditch the origonals, they`r the best speaker for this unit..

Here`s mine after the refoam..i replaced foam surround with rubber..

rom.selecta - 2009-07-13 21:12

Ahhh! so thats how its done! He made quite a mess compared to yours! Good job GMan!

drmz - 2009-07-14 01:17

Was the case an optional accessory or is it selfmade? I dont see a brand on it.

rom.selecta - 2009-07-15 08:19

Dunno... I guess I will have a better idea when it arrives!

ao - 2009-07-15 09:43

im.out.of.hear - 2009-07-15 16:12

Ok, the PC-5 arrived just now and the case is genuine! It has a great big Victor logo on it Smile

I am going to check it over now Big Grin

im.out.of.hear - 2009-07-18 04:35

Give it a good clean Rom,then throw us a pic of it..

Here`s mine..

rom.selecta - 2009-07-18 05:08

Only 3??? I dont think thats enough... time for you to buy another LOL Wink

Initial checks look not too bad... everything works although the cassette plays for a few seconds and then stops. Sound is clear when it plays though. The marks on the back wiped of with a damp cloth - they weren't burns, just some gunge on the clear overlays.

Speaker surrounds are shot but speakers still work. The case is in good shape and real well made!

I am in the midst of a GF-909 overhaul so my dinning room table is covered in part. Once thats done I will have a go at cleaning the PC-5 up more and maybe see why the deck is acting up... mean time nay suggestions as to why would be appreciated!

rom.selecta - 2009-07-18 08:41

After a bit more cleaning and cracking the cassette open, it now looks better and I know whats wrong with the cassette player... the smaller of the 2 belts snapped.

The a$$-clown who owned this before also had it in the box the wrong way and the RCA's plugged in all mixed up Razz

My clean up pics are here!

I love the way this box comes apart and how it connects up with RCA's! Big Grin

Rom,after sorting the deck out,you should refoam the speakers,it should sound nice once done..
unless you can do a deal with someone on here,e.g swap/sell..i think spud likes the pc5,i`m sure he would have it..
