the dump

andyboombox - 2009-09-04 03:09

fellow blasters
went to the dump yesterday and was shocked- the guy there actually let me look in the electrics cages!
alas dear friends there was nothing in there for me at all, in fact it looked like the cages had just been emptied in last couple of days. just a few poxy hoovers, crappy speakers, old computer bits and hifi bits. they do have a undercover (container) that they store tellies etc in, and i didnt look there yesterday.
well im off back this aft for another look. wish me luck. ill really need it. Frown
meanwhile, whats been happening lately for everyone else at their dumps? any golden nuggets in the sand (or silver boxes in the rubbish) let us know. personally its good to hear the stories.

Don't get don mate - you are on the right track

not every time you go there you will find some thing - but you are showing you face

always great to take some thing in with you (even if you pick it up from the side of the road Laugh Out Loud )
it puts them at ease when they are covered as well

find out when the crushers come and how often - so you get there first

also try and find out when the top dogs/ area managers are due - they again will like it if you try to keep out the way if they are due stops them getting into trouble and your face being seeen every time by some one that notice's you there every time

week ends are the best - and go there just after a sunny day - as most will sort out a garage shed loft in good weather - also end of the day about an hour till close - this is when most area managers have been - it will be quieter and best time to offer a bit of drinking money for goods

learn which one is the boss there (orange jacket) deal with him first if you can as he's the top dog of the place and you should go through him first - he will share out the money or let one of the others have it

have some thing to cover the back of the carboot just in case a area manager turns up

once you get more known - take biscuts and ice pops (hot weather) this helps as free food and stuff is always welcome Wink

always have a cover - take stuff in

if area managers turn up - leave slowly or blend in

take £ change, as some boxes can be bought for the price of filling the tea pot - only offer ££ when it's a big box - don't offer big money for every thing or they will want it every time - groom them, not you Nod Yes Laugh Out Loud

hope this helps - B Wink

i used to go to a couple of my localtips, when i asked for anything i was always told to feck off..

2steppa - 2009-09-04 10:19

Once you've dumped something at our local dump you better leave straight away, can't look for 10 secs in a container without some scruffy jobsworth herbert coming over and saying 'what ya doin?' 'what ya lookin' in there for?' and standing there till you get in your car and leave. miserable gits. Frown

It's all about playing the game and playing it well Cool

I got ahold of a guy yesterday who has a friend that works at the local recycling depot.

Him and his buddy there sell off all the vintage gear and split the money.

And the great thing is... he has over 100 boomboxes in storage. I am hoping to see them this weekend.

You found a boomer at a charity shop!! Damn, I aint ever found one in them places.

bendycat - 2009-09-05 02:42

charity shops in the UK are not really allowed to sell electical good as they can be fauly and kill Eek Laugh Out Loud

but there are a few that have some tested and allowed to sell out the electrical gear - rare shops and worth leaving you number with Wink

there are now some shops that do house clearences and sell in a shop - they may have some, but they may be smart and just put bits on ebay Roll Eyes

cheers B - B is not for blonde Laugh Out Loud

andyboombox - 2009-09-07 01:42

your right, bendy, up here in west yorkshire the bhf and prince of wales hospice have bigger shops they are allowed to sell electrical goods in. but thats about it
my scores from charity shop have been:
hitachi trk 3d8e lovely cond unit £10
sharp gf9090 beautiful find, good nick £7.50
sharp qt-w238 mint nick but i hate it- £10-(believe it or not) Eek
oh, and 2 small monos that are currently squat in my parents lada under the stairs.
i have my name and number down with these stores, b, and every other charity shop and clearance centre in yorkshire. and other than this ive scored nothing. went to car boot yesterday that was a complete waste of my time and petrol. i cant even find any slimlines now? whats going on? Confused Confused
andy v.
pity about the blonde thing, b. mousy brown then?? Laugh Out Loud

billy.the.binman - 2009-09-07 03:55

my dad was talking to a guy in a crap shop where he gets his old telephones from (he collects them).

the geeza in the shop said theres a bloke that pays to be at the local tip to sort through the rubbish and take what he wants, he then sells it on to shops etc.

that would explain why some are shirty if they pay to be sifting through the crap
