rc m90 power supply question

bytor - 2009-09-09 19:00

Hi,

Is a rc m90 power supply hard to come by? If you could get one without a power supply, would it be a hard fix, specific hard=to-get part or any other reason it might be a poor buy? I know price is the main consideration, but is this a worthwhile project?

Any help would be great. And I really do appreciate all the help I get from this site, I'm always steered in the right direction.

Thanks

Any quality repair shop should be able to repair it if it's not missing parts. It's about the simplest problem that you can have on an M90. That doesn't mean that it's easy for someone not technical or at least with a little bit of background or experience in electrical work. Basic trouble shooting tools are required as well, with a minimum being a DMM.

Thanks for your help. What if the unit is missing the power supply completely. Is this something generic or that could be harvested from another radio?

Thanks,

I assume you mean the internal power supply for runnning off mains AC power?

Does your M90 have a 12V dc input? (I thought they all did) If so, I'd recommend buying a decent AC-DC convertoer & using that.
Something like this:

...remember the high power consumption of the M90, so you'll need something that can deliver at least 60 watts of power.

Thanks Isolator. That part is cheap!

"I assume you mean the internal power supply for runnning off mains AC power?"

I'm not sure, I'm getting it today, the seller said he had opened it up and saw that it was missing but could be fixed.

If it was the internal power supply, would it still run on batteries. Would this AC/DC converter replace buying the part for the internal AC power or should I get both?

Pls excuse my lack of technical knowledge (this is why I like this site so much). My collecting really is based on I really like looking at them, I really like listening to them, I really like finding them and getting my buddies retired electrician dad to fix what needs fixin'.

Thanks,

You've got lots of questions but it appears we are unclear at the moment exactly what is missing, or what the problem is. Why don't you wait til you receive it and show us a picture of what missing.
