Philips D8614 & D8623

retro.addict - 2009-11-13 02:10

Hi, I am interested in these boxes, and there is one available local to me that I can buy if I so wish. I think the one for sale is a D8623. Does anyone know of any physical differences between these two models?

Both models look exactly the same, in fact I can't tell which one this is...

Send a PM to ViennaSound. He knows everything about Philips. He has a huge Philips collection. Buys new ones every week at flea markets.

Nice lookers that I see reasonably often on Ebay. Kinda curious as to how good (or bad) they sound.

They sound amazing. The clarity and Stereo wideness is the best that I've heard from any box, the bass is amazing, really deep and well-defined. With loudness on, it no longer sounds portable, it sounds like a hi-fi system. I was stoked when I first heard my D8634 (a variant) in full swing. It sounds twice as good as the GF-777 in my opinion, with a lot less bass than the 777 of course, but certainly still more than enough. Plus it's nowhere near as loud. The sound QUALITY is much better though, like a proper hi-fi system. Unbelieveable sound, honest.

if you could see on top of this you would know the model number - just above the tuning knob.

i aggree &
Philips D8614 sounds very loud to the point of over powering the woofers if
using too much bass or having the loudness button on, I can get an earache
from this one as it can get "that" loud on batteries
mine - however doesn't ff or rew but plays very well and the cassette buttons 'stick'
even though they are momentary... have to gently pull out the play button go allow 'stop' to stop

Stereo control - is a very nifty feature allows the sound-stage to trancend from mono to wide or anywhere in between that is pleasing to hear.

Shame to hear about the cassette buttons sticking on yours, the logic deck is the best feature on my D8634 in my opinion, it's so smooth and precise, and works flawlessly. It sounds excellent too.

I agree 100%. I like this feature as much as the logic deck. Gives an incredibly wide sound. Very adjustable.

I'm interested to hear whether anyone has compared the sound of one of these boxes to a D8634. If so, is there a difference? Which is better?

I also have one and it's a nice box.

well if they sound as good as my d8534 then they must be good.you'd be amazed how good the philips boxes sound.they offered spatial stereo, graphic equaliser, etc etc that all contributed to the hifi quality sound.i agree, these are hifi's with handles.not to put too finer point on it.

I have a D8534 also, it sounds really, really good. But the D8634 sounds better overall in my opinion.
