how good

andyboombox - 2009-11-25 05:42

yo blaster world.
i hope shortly to be aquiring a sanyo m9990L. ive heard good things about this machine, and as such have been wanting one for some time.
but please tell me-
how good does it actually sound?
can it take the bass piled on?
is it easy for a thicko like me to repair?
and the big one, how does it fair against others in the grand old scheme of things?
the one im hopefully goona get has a couple of issues.the aerial is missing, the tuner needle is stuck but still tunes in to stations properly, and one knob has its top missing.are these easy fixes?if any of you have brochure scans/info etc i'd be greatful to see. it.
i know this is like bread and butter stuff to most of you, but if this model's as good as i think it is it will be my first major purchase.
please help/advise!!!! Wink

saxonman - 2009-11-25 07:33

sounds a great machine in regard to the aerial I replaced one on my crown with one from an indoor tv aerial from the local pound shop!!! and it's almost the same so try your local cheap shops for that andy..

retro.addict - 2009-11-25 11:16

My M9990L sounds amazing, it beats nearly all boxes with 6.5" woofers in overall sound and certainly bass. I was astounded at the bass output when I bought it, I just couldn't believe it. It has plenty of treble, the tweeters are very good, and Stereo wide sounds nice too. Overall, an incredible sounding portable Stereo.

cassettekid - 2009-11-25 12:52

SANYO M9994K versus SANYO M9990L
is there any difference in sound?
or is it the feature's that are different as these are similar looking to me

m9990 epay presently $125.00

cassettekid - 2009-11-25 20:01

and here is a M9994 for comparison also for sale presently on epay

SANYO M9994 epay $45.00 presently

reli - 2009-11-25 20:50

Dunno......but the 9990 definitely LOOKS better than the 9994.......in MY opinion at least.

andyboombox - 2009-11-26 03:35

hi guys
im a bit fed up. ive just had to increase my offer for the 9990 to my absolute limit, because some cretin has decided to leave it while last minute to have a battle royale with me. why not bid- in earlier so i know what im bloody up against?not leave it while the final dying hours and crush my hopes? Mad Mad
its the first decent box ive ever gone for and now i stand about a 10% chance of landing it.as you can imagine im really peeved off- if youre on here, and youll know it if you are- give me a break!im on jsa and im pushing myself to the limit now!ive been hunting for one of these for ages now.
any way, ill know by the morning. at least then ill be able to say if ive got it.
sorry for the angry post guys. it just seems luck is never on my side.

bidder Four had 2 bid's there @ 25 pounds or better - Did you win Andy?

andyboombox - 2009-11-27 02:11

did i feck, cassette kid, and to say the least im furious.ive looked for one of these for ages now and to be pipped at last minute when i was winning it the whole time upto a few hours to go is enfuriating.why couldnt the scum bag who won it make their self known earlier that they were interested so at least id know where i was.this sounds daft but i wanted this as much as someone bidding (with money) on an m90 and getting shot down at the last minute. my final bid was 21 quid, at about 4pm yesterday. and with the delivery costs, that was my ultimate top price.some a##hole took it off me for the sake of 4 quid! tell you what- i hope they get it and its been dropped in transit/ just doesnt work. if your on here- tuff- i mean what i say.im not normally like this, really- ask steve (mansion)-he'll confirm this.hes met up with me and knows how laid back and calm i am.
its just the dissapointment i feel. does anyone out there know how i feel? Frown

reli - 2009-11-27 03:18

Sorry you didn't get it, but if you had already bid your top price, then you shouldn't care if someone beat you. After all, you already bid your top price, meaning you weren't willing to go any higher, right?

Personally, I never bid until the last 10 seconds. Sometimes I will even use autobid services to bid for me, at the last one-tenth of a second. I don't see why anyone bids earlier. What's the point?

andyboombox - 2009-11-27 05:57

ah well, you win some you lose some Smile

alvinm - 2009-11-27 06:03

I Agree

The only reason to me that people bid early is to show your interest in an item and scare off potential bidders...

andyboombox - 2009-11-27 06:10

yeah.ah well.just tried my luck on a sharp gf8989 that ive since found out doesnt work. b.i.n £49.99, i offered 30, like a fool- still didnt win it!

banana95 - 2009-11-27 16:05

If that gf8989 is this one andy,
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/SHARP-GF...?hash=item19b7f1b977
then i wouldn't bother,i emailed the seller (about 6 weeks ago)and it wont even power up! best thing it has going for it,is the sticker on the tape door!
Anyway i got an 8989 now in much better shape for a lot less Smile

I Agree andy v, sorry to come across as coldblooded - and I mean absolutely no disrespect by what I'm about to say - but I don't feel sorry for you. It sounds to me like you didn't really want the box bad enough... Bidding early was your 1st mistake. Putting a cap on your highest bid is your 2nd. Nod Yes

Let me explain... The auction ain't over till it's OVER and anybody else who wants the box is NOT gonna stop bidding out of the kindness of their heart for the person who currently has the highest bid. Wink Hey, as they say, "Don't hate the player, hate the game". Cool

Bidding early and often only drives up the price at the end of the auction. The object of the game is to win the item on the cheap. Bidding early only defeats that purpose most of the time. If everybody was smart, they'd place their bids in the last 5-10 seconds of the auctions end and let the chips fall where they may... Maybe we'd see Conions and M90's selling dirt cheap every now and then. Nod Yes In short, people who bid early, bid to lose. Wink

Somewhat releted, this reminds me of the auctions for some cassettes I recently won... The seller has been selling the same make/model of tapes one at a time, once a week or so... In both auctions, this dude (I'm assuming it's the same person) placed a bid in the opening hours, only to have his victory snatched away in the last 5 seconds... BY ME! Laugh Out Loud Now, the seller is selling his last tape of that make/model, and once again, this dude (again, I'm assuming it's the same person) placed another bid in the opening hours... When will this jabroni learn that the only bid that matters is the one at the very end of the auction? Roll Eyes Well, he's gonna find out the hard way - AGAIN - in a week. Big Grin I don't bid to lose! No No

I Agree I bid sometime's first based upon the idea that I know that everybody is gonna outbid me - ( just to keep it on the top of the page and hopefully interest there ) but i dont bid anymore untill the last few second's and my secret for being the winning bidder is multiple computers online on the same item [ one mouse ] """ CLICK !!! """ Big Grin

yes that's me the first bidder there ....

and yes if you desire you [ can ask the seller a question ] to sell it to you [ in epay email for that item ]

Some Ebayer's will and some wont sell to you that way...

I recently made a offer to a ebay seller that he couldnt refuse so he ended a auction for me - I have it now - pristine conditon - just the tape counter dont work - no biggie, Perfect clean, working like brand spanking new! Yes! one more clue - ended within 24 hours of proper auction ending.

p.s. for the same reason above I have gotten heated about some seller's selling AFTER the bidding had started on epay & before proper auction ending - so it goes both ways...

Using multiple computers is cool and all that, but your strategy wouldn't help you if you were going against me and I wanted the item bad enough. Wink I OVERBID to ensure my victory! And if I do happen to lose, I'll at least take comfort in the fact that I made the other guy PAY! Big Grin

andyboombox - 2009-11-28 01:30

good info, lads, and thanks again. i will exercise caution should i bid on the bay again.
everything you all say i totally understand. its a lesson ive learned now. i have made purchases onthere before now though and won them with an early bid- i guess there was no other interest in them though.
plus i thought all my dreams had come yrue yesterday when i saw a marantz seperates system advertised on local classified ads as a portable unit- for a tenner!!!!!!!only to be eventually told by the seller there had been a cock- up and it wasnt a portable.but they ment to put on they had a sanyo portable- but it was only 10 yrs old.that puts that one into the cheap 90s crap territory.
ah well, you win some, you lose a lot more.
