the murphy make

andyboombox - 2009-11-23 02:35

hello chaps, been a few days since i posted owt properly as ive been feeling a bit rough since thursday.
finally got myself out yesterday and found a murphy TR330EL on the carboot for 4 quid. for those of you who dont know, its small, about the size of a sharp gf450 and in shape, but smaller speakers.but heres the surprise. it may have small speakers but they sound damn good for speakers so small. i mean, its fairly basic, but has good looks and is silver coloured.and quite heavy indeed.
any one who knows more about murphy i'd love to know.cant say ive ever seen or heard of them on here either.but then im as blind as a bat Laugh Out Loud
and i should have a camera real soon. once my folks give me some christmas money!!!!!!!!!!!
gettoman/bendy/isolator42 etc know anything? Confused

hey gm ive checked the thread, cant see the pics, but the model number geoff mentions doesnt match mine.almost sounds like it should be a pye really- didnt all theirs start with 'tr'?could it be a pye copy?it seems almost freakishly long for the size of the speakers- like it should have been a single deck with larger speakers.but as i say, it woulnt scare anyone but its not bad for the size. im trying not to buy the rubbish anymore due to room, but i dont think this is rubbish at all.got me sights on an m9990 sanyo ive seen next anyway.

Andy

Murphy used to be a quality make many years ago. They were aquired by the Rank organisation in the 60's and continued until the late 70's when Rank sold off it's electronics brands like Bush, Murphy, Leak and Wharfedale.Murphy and Bush cassette machines of the 60's and 70's were sourced from Japan and were quite good.
The later machines after Rank were sourced from China and IMO were not a patch on earlier stuff. Murphy has been reduced to a cheap brand often with poor quality products.

Hi ViennaSound

I've had this Philips since new, I think I bought it in 1983 and it still works!
I used to take it with me when I went on training courses.
It's a nice little thing but the sound is awful!!!

Ok, for this size you can´t guess a big banger.
But it´s loaded with features.
And it´s a PHILIPS ! Wink
