i931 What's wrong with this picture?

Hi. I was looking around for information about the new Lasonic when I came across this place.
After reading everything I could about it I couldn't help but notice something that nobody brought up that I thought the folks on here might get a kick out of.
You folks seem to really know your stuff, so I couldn't help but ask: What's wrong with this picture (other than it being a fake dial)?

Just in case someone out there is looking for information on it like I was here is my two cents;
As far as the radio itself goes: It's alright. I'm not really blown away by it, but it's probably the best thing going now.
On the other hand the AM is so weak that I thought there was something wrong with it. After talking a look inside I found out that it's just a bad design. I put in a much longer ferrite rod and improved it a bit. It went from practically deaf (just the strongest local stations) to slightly less than average.
FM is so so. MP# though the card slot and USB is a bit of a pain to navigate through and scans though files at a snail's pace, but I still can't help but really like it just the same.
iPod dock? Don't know. I have no use for one as I find them to be far too restrictive and iTunes to be a huge unnecessary pain.

It seems to me that you bought the box for everything EXCEPT what the box was really made for... Roll Eyes

In a way, that almost doesn't matter 'cause operating a iPod thru the box is a biatch too - whether by the front panel or the ridiculously confusing remote control that came with it! Nod Yes

As for the photo, are you talking about the 171 KHz? The black version I had said the same thing but my white on white version goes to 160. Confused

Lol. Well sort of I guess. I was more interested in the line in and card slot than anything else really.

That's very close. 171 9x10 KHz is a little odd, but it's the top end of the dial in the US (1710) so I can see how it would sort of make sense to have it marked that way. Again you're very close though.

I think I see now... There appears to be a typographical error. Nod Yes Instead of saying "120" on the AM dial, it says "102". Big Grin Very odd being as tho there's "100" to it's left and a big-ass jump to "140" on it's right. Confused It's bad enough that those 3 sets of numbers aren't evenly spaced out...

Still, for some reason, I'm not surprised that Lasonic messed that up. Laugh Out Loud

BINGO! Lol.

You'd think that somebody at Lasonic would have caught that before it went into production.
Not that it's a big deal or anything. I just thought it was funny. Big Grin

This is really stupid! All of it is stupid, the number mistakes, the AM antenna issue, the number spacing mistakes and the fact that it's just a sticker and not a real dial indicator... I don't use or like iPod's so that mixed with some of these little "Off the Mark" manufacturing issues has kept me from buying one of these.

Aside from all of this....

When your just playing your music how does it sound?

Are you happy with the box?

Do you put batteries in it and take it out?

considering it's Lasonic & not JVC or Aiwa, it's a good effort, is the i931.
The comedy false dial is just part of the Lasonic experience, for me.
Like being treated like cattle on EasyJet... you get what you pay for Smile

Agreed, however it looks much more like a novelty type toy than it actually is.

At least I'm not the only one. The iPod dock is a bit of a turn off for me, but it's still an amp, speakers, MP3 player, and radio. In other words a modern box. It has it's limitations and flaws, but it's not too hard to overlook them. Besides, it's the only real option that's available at the moment (new anyway).

I'm getting past that open hole by getting on of those cheap imitation iPods for now (just for looks). I'll probably get inside and mod the wiring for a Sansa at some point.

Compared to just about anything else (portable) that has been available over the past several years I'd say it's great. Compared to the boxes from back when there were still many good options I'd say it's average. It's highs and mids are clean as is the mid bass. Bass response is more like it has 5" speakers and not 6 1/2" (?), but all in all still not bad. Being able to adjust the bass and treble is a very nice (and needed) touch. Think mid priced and fairly powerful box from the early '80s. Not outstanding, but not that bad either. It's also quite loud. The overall volume is where it's larger speakers become apparent. Surprising as it may seem distortion is minimal as long as the source material is decent.

I have no major complaints whosoever.

Very much. I'd buy another one in a heartbeat. I also highly recommend it.

Yes, I do (with rechargeables). It is a portable, after all. You can almost hear it begging you to take it outside. That's exactly what it was built for, so who could resist?

I don't recommend doing it with an MP3 player hooked into the usb that needs charging. That will drain the batteries in a hurry. A chip is by far the best option. Yes it will read a SDHC (more than 2G). Taking the battery out of Sansa e200 or other player with a user replaceable battery (why are there not more of them?) woks good too as long as you don't mind taking along another device and having a cord running to it (of course). It reads whatever is hooked into the usb in the same way that it reads a chip, so it's not really necessary. Of course you could always run whatever into the aux jack.

It's not all that heavy, but yet it feels like it should hold up just fine. I wouldn't toss it off of a building or anything, but other than that it's mot likely to fall apart should you drop it. It's definitely made out of cheap shiny plastic, but at least it's flexible and not brittle at all.
