I have the M2818L which is the same box, only it has no outer speakers cabinets, it just uses the one in the main unit. It's a strange looking unit for sure. Nod Yes I actually like the plasticky feel of these cheap boxes. Smile

Strange and very funky! Like the many speakers, it looks cool.

i had the 5 speaker sanyo,i liked the looks of it but the sound was awfull, had no bass at all,i tried everything to improve it but could'nt,so i threw it away..
still you got it for a good price,£10 is nothing..you'de spend more than that on McDonalds

gettoman, I remember you posted a pic of that box years ago. Did you chuck it in the bin?! Eek What a shame, you could have sent it to me. Frown What did you do to try to improve the bass?

Hi Broags,about the sanyo m9818/9819
there are at least 5 different versions of this unit:

the first appeared on the market 1981.
the m9918,Japanese version wit 220v:

the second one was produced in singapore:

here comes the third id tag, from the Taiwan version, 120v:

your id tag shows the Taiwanese 240v version.

they came out in:
silver,
black,
grey,
red,

47.5cm w x 28cm h x 15cm d.

19x12x6 inches:

differences:
wave reception
voltage ange

there has been an "built-in accumulator" version as well.

2003 a Chinese version was to see on asian trade platforms,it might be a
licenced version, since it appeared with a bunch of different labels:

^ Interesting Jens, thanks for the pics. I wonder if the original Japanese ones were built better and had better sound?

broags - 2010-01-23 16:23

Thanks for the info guys Smile , i like the look of it but i will probably hawk this one , i prefer the massive boxes

That was the second radio I ever owned, actually bought it new. Don't know what I was thinking, but I was young, thought it looked cool. In hind-sight should have bought something better. No line/out, cheap deck, poor sound, and lousy detachable speaker mounts(they'd fall off at the slightest bump),plus the center speaker doesn't work when the left one is plugged in.

im.out.of.hear - 2010-01-23 20:45

hi retro..yeah i threw it away last year sometime, teamstress is right about it,bang on perfect description..the detachable speakers on this box,one is a proppa bass and the other is a passive (fake) bass,i changed the passive bass for a set of aiwa reflex bass, nice and soft, only 4ohm so they should have been easy to drive, but the amp in the sanyo was soo weak, had no proppa bass circuit,no bass at all,and when its turned up the amp does'nt go loud and just distorts to hell..its a real shame because i liked it,but i had lots and lots of stereo's,way too many..the real crap ones i threw away, and some of the nicer ones i gave away..
Gave this monster away..

and this..

and this..

and this

and this

i only gave them away because the people came and picked them up,meljack had some and my other mate had some..

i gave loads more away and threw some e.g,sanyo c3,c5,2x philips tandems,an aiwa stereo 300,aiwa tpr990..and another fisher, they had to go coz i had stereo's every where and it got too much..
