philips d8614 sound machine

lav.loo - 2010-03-21 04:56

hi all, does anyone own a philips d8614, just wanted opinions on it, i think it,s 1 of the most underestimated boxes of the 80s, sounds topdog, looks nice, and recording capabilities are excellent Nod Yes made in austria, any opinions would be much appreciated.

muto - 2010-03-21 05:28

I have one too. It's a good box! Don't know what was it's list price when it was new but very good price/quality today.

lav.loo - 2010-03-21 06:37

thanks for that muto, any further info on this box would be appreciated Nod Yes !!!

tiko - 2010-03-21 08:07

lav.loo - 2010-03-21 12:56

thanks for the link gettoman, i have the mk2 version aswell, not as nice looking in my opinion but still sounds good Nod Yes

richard.heijnen - 2010-03-24 15:32

I've got two of them.. One that i got as a 12 year old (brand new, must have been around 1980) and one i found at a second hand store a few months ago.
yep, volume is great, sound quality too, and fm stereo reception is perfect. Dont care much about the unnatural "spatial" stereo.
At the time it cost about 750 dutch guilders, wich was aprox 300 to 350 us$.

lav.loo - 2010-03-24 16:23

thanks for the feedback rich, thats enlightened me quiet a bit as i thought it dated more towards 1983/84. nice to know other people out there appreciate this fine box Nod Yes

bogdan - 2010-03-24 19:30

I don't have one but I like the way it looks. The way it looks promise a very high quality sound.Hope for the link I found to work.

It´s my favourite box.
Maybe because of "made in austria" Big Grin

Also own the mark2 version.

And now a 3. version came in, i´ve never seen before.
Anybody knows the HORNYPHON "the POWER Stereo"?
Pics soon! Wink

lav.loo - 2010-04-01 04:06

viennasound - 2010-04-01 04:22

Will take some pics on friday.
Optical it´s looking very similar, but with other labels on it and choco-brown. Smile
Here a preview:

btw: must have been also sold as RADIOLA.
Found one on flea, but very smashed, so i left it.... Frown

lav.loo - 2010-04-01 04:28

"wow" that,s different Nod Yes never seen a choc brown 1 before, very unusual not as nice as the silver finish though No No look forward to your pics V.S.

josojuru - 2010-04-03 03:21

if it sounds like a 8734 (3 pieces double deck) very good boombox

lav.loo - 2010-04-03 03:35

hi j.j, in my opinion it sounds better than the d8734. i've had the d8734 and compared, the d8614 is'nt as big as the d8734 and is a one unit piece, very nice sound Nod Yes

viennasound - 2010-04-13 07:09

Ok, here we go!

I still owned 2 versions of that PHILIPS.
But as HORNYPHON, it´s new to me.
Also the Color!

Here comes the choco HORNYPHON:

Fully working:

PHILIPS names it "Powerplay Machine"
HORNYPHON calls it "the POWER Stereo"

But it´s very similar to the PHILIPS

And here the tower of power!

one type, but 3 different styles :afro:

Those units are very nice.
I love the 3piecer look, but it´s a 1 piecer!

One more for the PHILIPS combo!

btw: where is börny?
Long no posting from him....

lav.loo - 2010-04-13 08:53

Here something special for you:

More rare was for sure this RADIOLA i have seen on flea. Eek
Any brutal idiot has cutted off the speakers! Mad

leave a tear on this poor one!
For 8 euro i would have taken it for sure, if it has been complete.
Or should i get it as partspender? Roll Eyes

lav.loo - 2010-04-13 11:51

that,s a shame to see a real nice box in that condition Frown if you could use parts i would grab it, sure worth 8 euro,s for useful parts v.s Wink
