where have all the boxes gone???????

andyboombox - 2010-04-07 02:59

hi guys,
now is it just me, or have boomboxes vanished in the wild?
i mean,i have been going faithfully this year already since january to all the car boots and found nothing.i went all year last year to the car boots etc near me and found next to nothing-save for a sanyo m7750 mini and d8534-that was it-zilch.how do these boots fair in your area?talking to lav loo as i was yesterday and in his areas hes not having too much trouble-so why not yorkshire for instance?how are you fairing in your area?i have a theory of course-people are watching tv and seeing them in the commercials, pop videos etc and thing-hmmmm...ive got a boombox-its not the one in the advert, but i bet its worth a couple of hundred quid....on EBAY!!!!!!so off said person goes to chase his 200 quid on ebay-failing to realise that all the general public are wanting is the actual same make and models as the ones on the telly-not your average sharp 4646,etc.so when the box doesnt sell on ebay what happens-"ah sod it-not worth anything after all-ill chuck it at the tip".so when we all go to check there we cant even look, let alone buy any due to rules and regulations-red tape rubbish.so basically its the fault of ebay really-it pushes the price of boxes beyond peoples means and then stops people who like me arent exactly well off, being able to get any.which in turn for me is why theyre not in the wild no more.
its really getting me down of late-i dont expect to go and uncover an m90,or big ben,but something better than a poxy crappy toshiba rt120 would be nice every now and then.
but this is my rant-what are your feelings, and how you feel the carboot season this year will go-cos if mines any thing like last year it will be dire Frown
ps i did get an m80 yesterday but that was "cheating"-i got it off another member!the in the wild thing needs to come back soon.cos im hacked off with it.

ill say what i said before, these things are rare, they never were plentiful, you have to work like spartacus to find any decent boxes - if anything theyre easier to get now than before, the nice ones are certainly alot cheaper.

lav.loo - 2010-04-07 05:18

you could always move andy to a more populated area, maybe farmers never really had boomboxes Laugh Out Loud

andyboombox - 2010-04-08 04:53

That sounds like the perfect situation, lav loo. First you live in a box-filled area of the country, emptying it of boxes, then take your finds with you and live in the countryside and enjoy the views. Laugh Out Loud

lav.loo - 2010-04-08 12:35

Laugh Out Loud nice 1 R.A. i could,nt afford to live where andy lives it looks too posh for me Nod Yes and il,e be honest there,s just more bootsales and thrift shops where i live.
it,s just too rural up andy,s way so i think he only goes to the same booty all the time.
and to be honest i don,t really pick much of anything up myself these days, so i sometimes resort to ripbay Nod Yes maybe andy would do better collectin stamps or somethin Laugh Out Loud only jokin andy mate Wink

I'm in the U.S. ...

It's true, ebay and tv shows like "Antiques Road Show" (is that on in the U.K.?) have made people think that all their old junk is worth a lot of money, so they hold on to it or try to sell on ebay for heaps of $$$. But, I also think things go in cycles. Right about now, spring is coming so people will be cleaning house and getting rid of stuff, so the boots/thrifts/flea markets should start to pick up again...I hope. Smile

lav.loo - 2010-04-08 13:03

hi there keith, yeh antiques roadshow is in uk too.
i agree with you there Nod Yes but also analogue radio is getting the shove completely here in the uk in a few years, supposedly.
that means more people will be ditching their ghetto,s and that can only be good for us guys Nod Yes.
i also believe in turn it will make them more collectable than they are at the moment.

What is a car boot? Do you mean flea market?

lav.loo - 2010-04-09 01:07

hey reli, no a carboot is not a flea market No No a carboot is a big field for example with loads of cars on it selling goods.
it,s called a carboot because all the goods come out of the boot of the car, or trunk as you guys call em Nod Yes do you not have them in usa??

billy.the.binman - 2010-04-09 04:11

its like a garage sale, only people fill their car/van up and take it to a field, lay it out and sell their crap. its like a garage sale x200

andyboombox - 2010-04-09 04:14
