hi all, i was just checking the original price of my panny5500 on stereo80s and i was shocked to see that it retailed for a whopping $749 in 1980.
i then checked the original price of the jvcm70, and that only retailed at $480.
i was quiet shocked, i thought they would have been round the same price.
i may keep hold of my 5500 now Nod Yes it must have been a top model to retail at that price, anyway guys just thought id send you all to sleep with a bit of useless info Wink

Loo, thanks Big Grin. We won nex time,- 10:4 against Serbia's team. Unfortunately we lost against team Japan today 7:1, but we are staying anyway in our division and it's cool:]. Lithuania is the one and only state in this divison which doesn't have local pro league. Our the one and only pro club is playing in Latvia's league ;]. Sorry for off-topic:]

lav.loo - 2010-04-25 12:49

hey brigadier, i see your very passionate about the sport, good on you, i told you next time you win, and isn,t it so much sweeter Nod Yes shame about losing to japan, but don,t hold it against them, afterall they gave us the true GHETTOBLASTER, anyway stop gettin of topic your spoiling my post Laugh Out Loud

Funny you should mention that, a long time ago I took a pic of my 5500 and 70 together:

I also have a 5600. Of the three I think the 70 is the loudest and has the most bass but the 5600 comes pretty close. I like the tape deck on the 5600 best of the three. My 5500 needs service - I think it has some bad caps and might also need a new tape head - so it is not really fair for me to compare it to the others.

lav.loo - 2010-04-30 11:17

i kind of agree with you RPM, the 5500 is a bit bass shy, but i think it has better highs than the m70 Nod Yes i also prefer the controls upfront than on top like the m70, only because it makes em less prone to getting cr*p inside.
i never really liked the sound of the m70 i had, but then again it was a bit battered.
so it,s not really for me to compare sound on em.
iv,e had the 5600 aswell and i was quiet impressed with it, then again iv,e always liked panny,s so maybe it makes me a bit biast.
thanks for your input RPM Wink

Hard to imagine a unit with more highs than the RC M70 , Here in Canada in 1981 the RC M70 Retailed for $500.00 CDN . Very well put together unit.

lav.loo - 2010-05-11 12:54

ye i agree jvc,s are very well made, but so is the 5500 it,s built like a battleship Nod Yesi think the 5500 has crisper highs because it does,nt have horn tweeters like the m70, anyway i wasn,t comparing build quality or even sound to begin with, just retail price Wink
