Original prices?

hifitom - 2010-04-22 09:47

Hello

When I look back how expensive boomboxes have been in the 80's – I spend for a medium size ITT Touring 220 the original price of 649,- DM back in 1984 (!) – I would love to know the price of a GF-777, Marantz PMS 7000, Rotel RPM 10, Uher mini port, ... and all my other favored ghettos I own.

So do anybody know more about this?
- Telefunken Hifi Studio M1 - 1300,- DM
- Telefunken HP 800 hifi - 999,- DM
- Grundig Party Center 2000 hifi - 1200,- DM
- JVC M-80 - 799,- DM
... and that's all I know ...

So what about:
- Marantz PMS 7000 ?
- Sharp GF 777 ?
- Uher mini port ?
- Rotel RPM 10 ?
- JVC PC 55 ?
- JVC PC-1000 ?
- JVC M-90 ?
- Siemens RS 806 ?
- Philips 8814 ?
- Hitachi TRK 9900 ?
- Fisher PH-490 ?
- Yamaha YST-11 / AST-10 ?
- Universum Senator 1000 hifi ?
- Technics SA-07 ?
- Technics RX-A2 ?
- Aiwa CA-W 20 ?
- Wega 33 ?
- Mars JH-100 hifi ?
- Kenwood DC 20 (El Poco) ?

Would be great to get infos about this!
Thanks and best wishes
TOM

hi tom, type in your pc, (stereo80s), all one word.
if you don,t already know about this site it,s great for info, prices, year releases and other info on most box brands from the 80s.
just go into the site and click on the brand name you want, scroll down, then you will have a list of all model numbers.
just click on the model number you want, then a pic of the blaster will pop up with all the info on it.
hope this helps Wink http://www.stereo80s.com/ a link for you Wink

Was not more??????? Hummmm....

What does that calculate up to for now-a-days money (value)????

AK74, did you calculate that it was about 1400 DM at the time, or would that be 1400 DM now (even though we are in euros)?

bredgeo - 2010-04-29 06:20

Okay.... 250 back in 1980(81) would be about 625 today...

Still, not too expensive.

bredgeo - 2010-04-29 06:24

Okay.... If 1400DM / 3 = 466.33 USD

Would that mean the guys in the US were buying GF777s for 250 USD and the guys in Germany were buying them for 466USD?

Wow, the German government have heavy taxes on those things!!!! Eek

lav.loo - 2010-04-29 06:27

i thought the 777 was released way before 85, i thought more 82/83 Confused

cman750 - 2010-05-15 11:14

I recall back in the day 1980"s being a JVC owner
RC M80 $ 600.00 Canadian 1981
RC M90 $ 700.00 Canadian 1982 $632.00 1983
JVC PC 55 $700.00 Canadian 1984

I can recall these prices and dates as if was yesterday.

bredgeo - 2010-05-15 12:17

Ah, yes.... Yesterday! Nod Yes

themobcrew - 2010-05-15 16:23

wow that was alot of money for canadians for that time.

hifitom - 2010-05-15 23:33

Thanks guys!

Different prices from the US to germany? Also these days! But electronics don't have that big differnts any more. My US-friend Matt use to organize me my first car-hifi (speakers and amps) for half the money they cost here in germany - that was back in 1989.

If you would buy a new Ford Mustang GT here in Germany, it cost more than the double price than you would pay in the US!

USA = 25.000 $ --- Germany = 50.000 Euros (= 61.000 US-$)

Thanks and best wishes
