My first Garage/Yard sale adventure

terry - 2010-05-09 00:27

Here's the result of my first Garage/Yard sale adventure on Saturday morning. A total of 5 errm...boxes! Expenditure AU$23 plus fuel and 3 hours of my time. Silly me didn't take a spare cassette to check the boxes out. Lesson learnt.

First up was a little mono Sanyo M2444, Tape deck ist kaput! Radio works fine, Fm/Tape slider switch is ****y, missing the condenser mic. no battery grunge. Paid $5 wich was $5 too much. off to ebay.

Next find was a fithy Sanyo M9802F, deceased estate, this thing sat in the front parlour for 25 years collecting dust and nicotine stain, cleaned up very nice, all there except the tape deck is non functional. Maybe a keeper, dunno yet, I like the sound of it. Are these expensive to re-belt? I can here the motor whirring. Paid $5.00.

Next up an Akai AJ-456FA, this box looks great, but the sound is disappointing, weak and high. Tape deck works but sound is distorted. Radio works. another $5.00. off to ebay.

The next two bits of junk were $8 together, a Sharp QT34,(detachable speakers) left channel gone, (RCA line out is OK though) tape deck dead, very clean unit though. And a almost dead red plastic Sony mono thing, looks pretty but gawd awful sound out of it, tape deck turns but does nothing. eaby for this junk.

So all in all a bit of fun, there's definite potential in my area for BBX finds, I just gotta get out there, and also I have to stop stop buying junk.

good start, terry-now the only way is up-ive been doing it 18 months and have had-and traded -and still got-some nice boxes-but watch out-it'll soon become an obsession Wink

OP, I've sporadically collected boomboxes and other audio gear. The key is knowing when to just walk away and keep your money in your pocket. Sometimes I buy gear that I am not interested in just to keep on hand for trades but mostly I look for things I like rather than what I think another does. You'll have more fun pursuing collecting from that perspective too.
