can anyone help please??

lav.loo - 2010-05-19 08:42

hi all, i am wandering if anyone can help me out here?? basically i have a trade going through at the mo with a member on here, it,s an overseas trade to usa.
the box i sent reached it,s destination fine and only took 2 days (very fast).
i have been waiting 9 days now only to find it,s been sat in customs since monday morning which is over 2 days Confused
i was told off a member on here that it,s probably been scrutinised opened and all that c**p.
also he told me that if it,s insured at a high price which i believe it is to the sum of 300 dollars, that i will get a letter from customs saying i have to pay vat of about 60 quid Mad
i don,t have the cash so it,s looking very bad for me and now i don,t think i will ever see the box full stop.
can any member on here help me with my dillema?
as this happened to anyone here? or can anyone help me see light of this? any input will be greatly appreciated, thanks Wink
ok iv,e just checked with parcel force and im now more confused than ever Confused their saying the parcel is still in progress or process, and it was last checked today at the international hub and that no further information can be recieved from now on, im totally baffled Confused

the vat thing it right, i had to pay 100 pounds vat and a 700 dolla box, as for yours being sat at customs i sure they will deliver it when they have finished look at it

if its insured at that rate expect an envelope with the parcelforce logo possibly tomorrow. if youre lucky it will be £60 total but i doubt it tbh.

you have to pay it theres no way out unfortunately.

if youre lucky it will slip through though

lav.loo - 2010-05-19 09:44

hey thanks guys very much appreciated Nod Yes defo no more trades overseas for me now No No Wink

driptip - 2010-05-19 09:49

hey guys geo and billy, do you know if that is always the case when dealing with a package from the usa? and if only when is has been insured?

im.out.of.hear - 2010-05-19 09:57

i got my GF909 from peppin,it was valued at $200,i had to pay £32.00 import duty, the box arrived smashed anyhow,i got a refund off the insurance for the box but totally lost out on shipping and the import tax,in total i lost about £60,but it could have been worse if peppin did'nt claim the insurance for me..its only uk that have these import duties,i dont think theres any other country that has this.. (rippoff britain)

lav.loo - 2010-05-19 10:00

sorry to hear that gettoman that,s more than disheartening Nod Yes and yes this country is a rip off it,s an absolute joke Nod Yes

its not always the case, but if the value is over £32 it is subject to import duties. the postage cost is also taken into consideration too.

people try to get out of it with low value insurance and item values but that has obvious risks attached.

some things slip through though, others dont. im sure other countries have import duty to pay.

theres none to pay within the EU though, so trades and buys from Germany for example will be safe if youre in the UK!

az i feel your pain mate.all i can say is that like we discusses before, dont trade anything outside uk-at a push maybee ireland cos its not that far to come-but this is slowly turning into a fiasco now-no blockbuster, and on top of that-excise duties to pay now?its a complete and utter joke mate.none of this is made apparent (fees etc) till its too late-youve already paid enough out to get the shipping sorted, without this crap on top Mad
youre my mate and its p#####g me off to see you p####d off-
i guess az youve got to fear the worst, and be prepared for the worst-either pay a kings ransom on top of everything else in duties,or cut your losses completely-but then youll be 2 boxes down and £x amount of quid out of pocket.
sometimes its best to be positive, but also keep this what ive said in your mind,so you'll keep dissapointment to a minimum.
good luck.
hey, if its any consolation my hitachi still hasnt turned up yet, but thats only coming from devon
