BEST BOX BY FAR LOOK!!!

lav.loo - 2010-06-30 11:43

well guys after my change of heart on my departure, here,s a little topic to keep things moving Nod Yes i just can,t help myself No No
i want to make this thread as interesting as possible so a good write up along with pics would be great Nod Yes
i want you guys to list your 2 top boxes for looks and sound.
im gonna start by saying my philips d8614 sounds awesome, very bassy and real crisp highs, along with a sweet mid range.
this box has been my favourite since i got it 5 yrs ago (my first box), it has a real nice clean cut look too which i have never fell out of love with.
Laugh Out Loud i hope my girlfriend does,nt see that bit Big Grin
then recently i got the sanyo mx 920, and boy does she kick, this box is one of the best iv,e ever heard Nod Yes forget your jvc,s panasonics and like this thing really does sound phenomenal and in my opinion outshines many in the looks department Nod Yes to me nothing i could ever own could replace this box, so here we go my all time fave box the sanyo mx920, and ofcourse my beloved philips Wink
enjoy pics below Wink

kid.sensation - 2010-06-30 14:47

that's a hard one -- i got a couple of great lookers that sound great -

but!!

i think my top 2 are these:

#1 - Sharp GF-999 (without and with grills)

#2 - Conion c-126FLG (without and with grills)

I got some close 3rd's like the J-1 or Telefunken Hifi Studio but these only do looks or sound, not both Smile

lav.loo - 2010-06-30 14:50

hey nice pics KID, i gotta say i do like the look of that conion, it looks like it can kick ass Nod Yes thanks for your contribution, good stuff Big Grin Wink

adespin - 2010-06-30 16:00

OK, so lets buck the trend here a bit, my favourite boxes i own are not the big monsters you all like, but something a little more compact and bijou. but they still pack a mighty punch.

JVC RC-X720 (uploaded off the internet)

Panasonic RX-DT707 (uploaded off the internet)

All comments welcomed.

Honestly, when it comes to big boxes, my collection is complete. I've known more than few members with that box throughout the years, but that one picture right there makes a VERY convincing argument for me to buy one of those Sanyo's. Nod Yes

i wonder which came first the m90 or that sanyo, they look very much like each other in my opinion, same level of craftsmanship, options, layout, etc

lav.loo - 2010-07-01 01:23

right, firstly ADE i can,t help like that panny dt707, it,s quiet a nice box Nod Yes
and MONO, i would buy a mx920 if you can, i promise you won,t be dissapointed No No
LOPEZ, 3 lovely boxes there, i particularly like that bottom panny Nod Yes
and last but not least, SATCHFAN, i think the m90 was made before the sanyo, but i gotta say the level of craftmanship on the sanyo is superior to the m90 after trying out both, real metal knobs and switches, tons of chrome, and it feels an absolute dream to use, more like high end seperates, i am not knocking what a great box the m90 is No No, i am just saying i think the sanyo is a better box, and to anyone who does,nt own one, get one if you can and you will see what i am talking about Nod Yes Wink

lav.loo - 2010-07-01 02:57

lets keep this thread moving with some nice pics like the ones above guys, cheers Wink

- 2010-07-01 04:54

The sanyo is a beut lav but to me since it was mine and i have the m90 to compare the 90 wins in the sound department for me.... but on looks the sanyo wins hands down, i MUST get another...

Best sounding boxes for me would be the dt680 aiwa ca70 m90 and the aiwa cs 880, sharp939 and I have to throw in the dt707 too. sorry no picks lad but then you saw most of my boxes but I forgot about the ones in the other cupbord Laugh Out Loud

lav.loo - 2010-07-01 05:11

well boomer i really would call it a close one on sound with the m90, cos their both 45 watt Nod Yes but like you say the sanyo wins on looks hands down Nod Yes sometimes it,s hard to compare sound quality because there,s a lot of real good sounding boxes out there, i just think the sanyo has the whole package.
stop making excuses up an get some pics posted you lazy sod Laugh Out Loud Wink
and whats this about the other cupboard?? you better not of been hiding more gems from us when we came No No or as ARNY says, ile be back Laugh Out Loud Big Grin

yep,it is the same..they are stupid big..you can tell of the size by comparing it to the 777,and look at the 777 bass to the jumbo bass, the 777 bass look like baby speakers Smile

lav.loo - 2010-07-01 08:42

I Agree the woofers are insane Nod Yes

reli - 2010-07-03 12:38

I dont know about the sound difference,i dont there is much difference, but i just love the looks, and its got a "full needle display" i just love the jap boxes, there so much different, and nicer than the standard boxes we have..i've always been a fan of the GF999..its my fave out of the big GF line,i prefure it more than the GF1000,i think the GF999 is alot nicer..

driptip - 2010-07-04 16:47

take a look at this setup.

reli - 2010-07-04 18:02

Best box in terms of looks, sound, and portability = Crown 850. Especially at night when the chrome is shining and its slung over your shoulder Nod Yes

lav.loo - 2010-07-05 01:31

nice pics guys Nod Yes check the needles on that crown...huuuuuuuuge Wink

kid.sensation - 2010-07-05 10:13

Reli --

when it comes to design the most significant difference is the different color-sheme (black woofer-section, labelled yellow), followed by the different tuner-scala (the gf-999 also features a band from 76MHz to 108MHz) and the (of course) japanese labeled functions. also the knobs are designed in a different way as you may can tell from the pics.

the gf-999 features better woofers (with black caps) and got an overall slightly better sound than the gf-777 as it was intented to be a better box.

and there is the GF-1000 that is another step better than the 999 with , again, another design and , again, better woofers Smile

they both aren't domestic japanese versions - they are more likely improved version for the chinese/japanese market only.

and then there are the 909 and the 919 which are more like the 777 i think as one of them is the domestic japanese version of the 777.

lav.loo - 2010-07-06 01:45

i can see why G,MAN prefers the 999 over the 777 here Nod Yes especially on the vu department, you can barely see the needles on the 777, bad designing Nod Yes Wink

- 2010-07-06 04:46

Haz to be a 1000 for me... but I do like the 999...
