lav.loo - 2010-08-11 12:39

litfan - 2010-08-12 04:29

I don`t know, but, it was a sad irony, when they chose a bombeat, to bring down the PAN AM flight. Scary.

samsnite - 2010-08-12 12:27

I think bombeat means nothing, just another japanese curiosity. And they thought it sounds cool...

lav.loo - 2010-08-12 14:11

I agree, similar to the "Big Station" stickers on my National RX-5350's.

lav.loo - 2010-08-12 16:52

ooooh the rx5350, what a nice looking box that is, panasonic quality all round Nod Yes

blaster - 2010-08-13 17:06

i guess its the same with the "big ben" box as well Wink

transwave5000 - 2010-08-15 00:00

Was a marketing thing like the word "walkman" Laugh Out Loud

The worst offender was Telefunken.
They had a "Name" for every model they sold.

isolator42 - 2010-08-17 05:49

Over the years, Japanese companies have come up with many weird & wonderful names like this for producs such as boomers & walkmen. The cultural differences (remember, no internet or "global village" back then) mean they often sounded strange &/or amusing to a native English speaking person.

Edit...due to BMoney Accusing me that i'm a racist in this thread..
http://stereo2go.com/eve/forum...=644103117#644103117

i cant say jap boxes anymore, although i've always said jap boxes in an innocent way time and time again and nobody else has found it a problem, and i think alot of other people have said jap boxes many many times over the years, but now it seems we are not allowed to say it anymore,so i will rephrase that,The W on the the Japanese boxes..i'm sure i've said many times that i like japanese people, and chinese people, and i even said that if i had enough cash,i would buy every japanese version box i could find on yahoo japan,if i did'nt like japanese people,i would'nt have bought 3 japanese boxes, with japanese text plastered all over the font of it..what a fool Bmoney really is..

This is TOTALLY off topic, so I hope we can wrap this up in a few posts and move back to the original topic...

Ghettoman, I don't believe you're racist - NOT AT ALL. No No I've noticed from being a member on a Japanese music forum since 2006 that using the word "Jap" is mostly a U.K. thing, as I've never heard an American use that term. Seems to me like an EXTEMELY lazy way to say "Japanese", and while I definitely don't agree with it's usage - lazy or not, I'm kinda used to it.

On a somewhat related note... I know there are a lot of box collectors and sellers in Japan, and there's a severe language barrier 'cause the Japanese like to stay in their own little world over there, but sometimes you've gotta wonder if those who've been curious enough to know of stereo2go or Boomboxery - or even the Japanese music forum I'm a member of, stay away because of the UNINTENTIONALLY racist use of the word "Jap" by U.K. members... I mostly believe it's the language thing tho. Nod Yes

im.out.of.hear - 2010-08-28 05:13

sorry Mono, but yes its mainly a british term, its not down to ignorance, its just a short term name for things,it only like saying British-Brit,Australian-Ozzy..actually ozzies call us brits pommies ect,its nothing to do with race,we know its just a slang word and nothing more...i've never ever intended it to sound racist at all,but BMoney has this massive chip on his shoulder about me,he has no idea who the hell i am,he has never engaged in any sort of conversation with me,i dont even know the guy but he has this think where he is determained to try to put me down and make me look like a fool,i've played these games before and i can tell you,it wont work..Yes..off topic,I am a thread jacker..i have passed my point..case closed now..sorry Mono, sorry Guys..

reli - 2010-08-28 11:42

"Japs" was used as a derogatory term by Americans back in WWII. I'm no expert, but I believe it is still considered offensive by most people. I remember back in the early 80's when I said it accidentally during 9th grade History class, everyone turned around and laughed at me, and the teacher chided me.

im.out.of.hear - 2010-08-28 12:27

ahh well reli,i had no idea of that, people over here dont think its any big issue, its just the norm, like i said, japanese are known as japs for short, does'nt mean we dont like them..just like australians are known as ozzy's,british are known as brits, ozzy's call us pommies, but its all meaningless to us,its just a word, slang term..just like in uk,people from manchester are known as mancs, people from liverpool are known as scousers, people from london are known as cockny's,people from scotland are known as scotts or scotties, birmingham = brummies,Newcastle = geordies and on and on and on...nothing to do with race or anything..no ignorance involved what so ever... Smile

litfan - 2010-08-28 14:41

What a load of tosh. My parents are polish. People call em poles. I say jam rolls, allsorts. If any japanese people are offended, speak up. I have alway`s known japanese as japs, saying that though. I never liked to say *****s (chinese), frogs (french).

litfan - 2010-08-28 14:42

Ooo, the censors have been busy.

docs - 2010-08-28 16:00

This derogatory bs stems from the western world. In Japan the word is used freely and without prejudice. Besides all of the actual facts of the matter, just because someone uses abreviations for someones or somethings location doesn't mean jack **** about their racial tendencies. Better to remain silent and be thought a fool, than to open your mouth and remove all doubt.

Back on topic. The word bomb from bombeat I think is designed to have impact and may well be intended as a double meaning for both the music and loud explosions giving the "feel" that this one has a large impact when played. The beat part is easy.

But would you say it to their face?

bmoney - 2010-08-28 18:07

Ghettoman, I called you "ignorant" not "racist". Let me define them for you since you seem to not have a dictionary close at hand.

ig·no·rant
–adjective

1. lacking in knowledge or training; unlearned: an ignorant man.
2. lacking knowledge or information as to a particular subject or fact: ignorant of quantum physics.
3. uninformed; unaware.
4. due to or showing lack of knowledge or training: an ignorant statement.

rac·ist
–noun
1. a belief or doctrine that inherent differences among the various human races determine cultural or individual achievement, usually involving the idea that one's own race is superior and has the right to rule others.
2. a policy, system of government, etc., based upon or fostering such a doctrine; discrimination.
3. hatred or intolerance of another race or other races.

Again, you're not racist. You're simply ignorant. You last several posts have proven this. But, you're not alone. Others who agree with you have proven this about themselves as well.

If you'd like to educate yourself further, here is a good place to start:

Wikipedia - Jap

Just because a group of people affectionately use known racial slurs to refer to themselves, it doesn't make it acceptable for others to do the same. Especially when they're not of that particular ethnic background. I don't understand why this needs to be explained to you people. Your continued responses only further validate your ignorance and lack of tolerance. Just admit that you're wrong and move on. Why jack threads in a lame attempt to continue a verbal altercation with me when it has already been shut down by a moderator? Pathetic.

Now, what does Bombeat mean?

im.out.of.hear - 2010-08-29 03:40

Yes ok..Just to end this right now !!
I am sooo sorry for being soo ignorant,i cant beleve how totally ignorant and stupid i've been, what a total fool i've been,i'm a waste of space,i deserve to be flogged..Your so much better than me,i dont deserve to breath the same air as everyone else..for being so ignorant and saying those despicable things about the good people of japan,i will have to live with the regret of saying that for the rest of my life..
i totally give in..Your Right I'm Wrong,Your big,i'm small..and theres nothing i can do about it..
THE END....
